A player at our table is a druid with a Large gorilla animal companion. We wanted the gorilla to carry some gear, but our Dm ruled that it need a specific trick.

Here's the problem: Britt has recently and clearly stated that only tricks mentioned in the PH can be used (which carry isn't one of them).

Does anyone know a passage or a FAQ that would allow an animal companion to carry gear??

Also if it is possible, What would an Gorilla use? A pack saddle (because the gorilla is an animal and even humaniod shaped animals wear barding not normal armour) or a large size backpack (which is legal to buy from PH)

Just wondering since the Gorilla is by far the strongest member in our party and could carry alot at a light load.

Cheers

Carry isn't, but Work is.
And while a backpack isn't pushing or pulling a medium or heavy load, not including hauling a sack or backpack seems to be against the intent of that trick.

I'm guessing this is the usual "without campaign documentation" ruling. There is a trick in one of the other books which allows an animal companion to do non-lethal damage. I've been trying to get this put into the regions druidic meta-org. I suspect there may be a simialr trick for what you want, you just need to find it an gain access.

There might not be. I have never encountered a DM who said any animal companion could NOT be outfitted with bags and exotic saddle. I think this is just a poor DM.

Not every action an animal takes is listed under "trick" which is why the Handle Animal "Pull/Push" option is listed. Tricks are there for more on command things like "move to flanking" is a separate trick than "attack". But thats something your trying to make happen instantaneously and while in combat. So it goes with reason that this would have be a trained trick.

Just purchase saddlebags for the animal.
