| Silvertears06-06-06, 07:21 PM | Ok. For whatever reason, I'm looking to do a Rage Mage. At the moment, I have a 2nd level dwarf barb 1/fighter 1. Hes got power attack and wf (dwarven waraxe). Stats are str 16 dex 12 con 16 int 14 wis 10 cha 6. I wasn't actually looking at rage mage when I first started playing him, but after reading some of our metaorg and history docs, that's where I want to go. So, any suggestions on where to take him from here, seein as he's almost level 3 and due for a feat? :) Thanks all! |

I can't think of anything particuarly good to do with the class, but this is a pretty simple(if vague) build for you...The level of spellsword in there gives you bab, caster level, and ignore an extra 10% spell failure, so at level 9, you can wear mithral full plate and have only 5% spell failure, and 30ft movement. |

I was basically thinking straight Rage mage after Barb2/Ftr1/Wiz3. I hadn't thought about the Spellsword dip. Basically I am doing it for flavor. Its not my main, and there's a dwarven clan in the region that is arcane fighter types....maybe another path would be better??? With the Barb level I've already taken, Rage Mage just seemed to be the best Arcane fighter option... Thanks! Silver. |

I would recommend taking Wizard at 3rd level in order to get your ranks in either Knowledge (arcana) or Spellcraft, whichever is necessary for Practiced Caster; then grab the feat. Extra Rage is a great feat, but it can wait until 6th level. At 9th level, you should take Arcane Strike. As a specialist wizard, you should have more spells than you'll ever use in combat (especially since you'll often spend time hitting things), and you can dump them to fuel your attack and damage. Also, tactics will make a big difference. False Life will help make up for the hit points you lose due to caster classes. So will Vampiric Touch, once you finally get it. Also, remember that the caster's "AC" comes from miss chances (mirror image, invisibility, displacement, etc.) more than from actual AC. Even though you can get the armor, Alter Self, Shield, etc. bonuses to AC, you'll be better off making certain you don't give up Illusion as a school (I recommend ditching Enchantment and Abjuration). Finally, as soon as you get access, get your primary weapon (and maybe a secondary weapon) upgraded to Spell Storing. |
