| GreatSiron10-19-05, 04:28 PM | Does anyone have a link to some information on Kelanen, other than what the deity guide tells, like something on his history before he became a god or about the location of his nine swords (or at least their names)? |
| Arvagor10-19-05, 08:39 PM | If you can find a copy, Dragon #71, "Greyhawk's World: Quasi-deities", by Gary Gygax -- Heward, Keoghtom, Murlynd and Kelanen are described, along with general notes on quasi- and hero- deities. Otherwise, there's really not that much out there -- most Google searches end up ultimately pointing to the content of the aforementioned article... |
| Prochytes10-20-05, 12:27 PM | The original "World of Greyhawk" boxed set also has a bit about Kelanen. The information therein, however, probably overlaps considerably (or totally) with that in the Dragon article which has already been mentioned (and which I am afraid that I have not seen). It does through light on Kelanen's scar, which is mentioned in the Deities document, but not explained: K. was once "as comely as any deity", if memory serves, but one of the trials he undertook in order to become the Prince of Swords resulted in his disfigurement. The legendary blade Fragarach the Answerer and its copies also have a long pedigree, but that is another story. I hope that this helps. |
| Prochytes10-20-05, 12:33 PM | As for the nine swords (or an earlier version of them; the story has changed a bit from 1st ed., I think, but I could easily be wrong): they were all given names in the original "Temple of Elemental Evil", but I am afraid that my copy of that module is elsewhere. They were all presented in English and they were all variations on the theme of "Answerer"; one that sticks in the memory was "Squelcher". Ho hum. Not every epic hero gets to call his sword Excalibur, Glamdring, or Stormbringer, I suppose... |
| GreatSiron10-25-05, 12:18 PM | Yeah I've heard about that mod, but have no idea how to get a copy of it. Where can i find a copy and how much? |
| kenobi6510-25-05, 02:50 PM | RPGNow.com has many of the old 1E / 2E materials available as PDFs. They have Temple of Elemental Evil for $5.95. (I'd post you a link, but commerical links aren't allowed by this board's CoC. Google is your friend.) |
| psgj10-26-05, 12:34 AM | paizo.com also sells old stuff in pdf format I think for $4.00. Patrick Jacobs |
