Okay, I thought it'd be neat to make a healing wizard, so I planned out this build:

Race:Grey Elf
Alignment:(Matching Deity with Healing Domain)

STR-10 (2)-2
DEX-14 (6)+2
CON-14 (6)-2
INT-15 (8)+2
WIS-14 (6)
CHA-8 (0)

Lv1(Wizard)Scribe Scroll, Skill Focus(Knowledge[Religion]}
Lv2(Wizard)
Lv3(Wizard)Arcane Disciple(Healing)
Lv4(Wizard)+1 INT
Lv5(Wizard)Craft Wondrous Item
Lv6(Divine Oracle)Spontaneous Healer
Lv7(Divine Oracle)
Lv8(Divine Oracle)+1 INT
Lv9(Divine Oracle)Feat
Lv10(Divine Oracle)
Lv11(Divine Oracle)
Lv12(Divine Oracle)Feat, +1 INT
Lv13(Divine Oracle)
Lv14(Divine Oracle)

I'm not even sure if I'll ever get arround to playing it...but I've begun to doubt whether or not spells converted into healing spells with Spontaneous Healer would count against the 1/day/spell level limit of Arcane Disciple. It seems hardly broken to allow it to work, requiring 2 feats and points in wisdom...but I'm not sure if it works by RAW...

Combat Medic is what you want for this sort of thing.

A) That doesn't answer the question at hand, and B)Would still need at least one level of divine oracle to pick up the needed ranks in heal...and some worthless feats...also would need to get access to the class...Good idea though.

Combat medic only helps with the heal spell, not all the cure spells before it. Besides, you'd probably want insignia of healing to use as a combat medic.

You should be able to combine arcane disciple with spontaneous healer as a wizard. You could also just use more pearls of power too.

I think a healing wizard really needs to think outside the box - I've got the following planned out for my Wizard - likely Wizard 10/Earth Dreamer 5 or something like that. If I get access to Ruathar or something similar, it might change.

Magic of the Land - use Haste, Discern Bloodline, Mass Invisibility, or possibly Heightened Quickened Message - really want a no-table variation spell that involves an immediate action with a targetable spell - Feather Fall is almost there, but not quite... :)

As I have Augment Summoning, once I get capable of Summoning an Avoral, the Avoral will heal 80 hp with a touch.

Arcane Disciple(Animal) - Summon up a Unicorn for Neutralize Poison and 3 cure spells.

I might or might not do everything, but see how it all scales with a common theme - nature oriented wizard

Trouble. The animal domain only allows summon nature's ally to summon animals. Unicorns are magical beasts, not animals.

If you could swing having spontaneous summoner, then that should let someone with summon nature's ally spontaneously summon to get a unicorn.

[edit: Really just taking Arcane Disciple for the cure spells being on your list and then using a wand of CLW is sufficient as a between-combat healer. If a wizard is spending his combat actions casting cure spells, then he should have been a cleric in the first place. During combats you are 100% better off casting color spray, glitter dust, web, solid fog, black tentacles, etc.

As for whether you will get table variation on spontaneous healer on top of arcane disciple, probably only on rare occasions would it be forbidden. I don't have any problem rules-wise or balance-wise with spontaneous X feats being used to get extra castings of arcane disciple derived spells- especially considering that a spontaneous summoner can even cast summon spells that aren't on their arcane disciple list. The only people who might take exception to it also wouldn't allow pearls of power to work on arcane disciple spells. I think those judges are in the minority, but haven't had the opportunity to find out personally.]

Hi

But why a Wizard type Healer?

Surely a Bard would be better? With Sublime Chord (available from 11th lvl) you can even get extra spell slots, plus spells from Sorceror/Wizard list.

Better still, wait until Complete Mage becomes accepted as source in LG, then take Lyric Theurge.

Bard 6/L Theurge 4

Spells Day 3/4/4/3/1

Spells Known (Bard) 6/4/4/4/2
(Plus one 1st & one 2nd lvl spell from sor/wiz list)

By 15th lvl you've got one extra spell slot over Bard in spells 1-5 inclusive, one extra spell known each level 1-6 inclusive. (But can't cast 6th until slot becomes available). Plus few extra benefits.

Cheers

Maybe because I like the flavor of it? And it's not like I'd be giving up terribly much. Still a full caster wizard (probably be a conjuration specialist, that way extra slot to prepare the cure spells). Not exactly optimized, but certainly still effective.
