| Necrochaos05-26-06, 04:08 PM | I'm a 4th level archer (Ranger 2/ Fighter1/ Monk 1) STr 18, Dex 19, Con 12, Int, Wis and Cha 8 I currently have a +1 composite longbow (+4 strength) Regular chain shirt, pearl of power (to get some extra healing), vest of resistance+1. What should I be buying with my gold? I have about 2K right now. Should I be saving up for something? Also, I plan to buy an enchantment to my bow. Should I chose cold or fire? Or are their other ideas. I have access to buy Bane Evil Outsiders. |

Deflect Arrows or Combat Reflexes = your call. 2 - At some point you'll probably want to upgrade to mithral armor, either a mithral breastplate (+5 DEX) or a mithral chain shirt (+6 DEX). I wouldn't bother enhancing your armor until you get mithral. 3 - At low levels, I'd focus on boosting your damage output. Standard equipment = Gloves of Dexterity, +1 enhancement to bow, then upgrade. At this point, I'd take the cold upgrade over both fire and bane (evil outsider), DEPENDING UPON what type of access you were given. Favors stick around, but Adventure access doesn't. If one of the upgrades is Adventure, and you can find a way to get the GP, get that upgrade first. Eventually, you'll want as many as possible on a number of bows (probably 2 or 3 bows total) as it's cheaper to get two +3 weapons than to get a +5 weapon. (Example: Get your Fire Frost Shock bow to use against constructs and animals. Get your Holy Bane bow to use against evil things with elemental resistance, such as evil outsiders.) |

| Sieylianna05-27-06, 09:58 AM | What about buying cold iron and silver arrows. Are they worth the price? Definitely. I'd carry at least 10 of each. You can also carry silversheen, but you may not be able to apply it to your arrows ahead of time. Ed |

Are they worth the price? Absolutley I actually use cold iron in prefrence to standard arrows, while carrying silver in reserve. You should try and get Blunt arrows (for subdual), Adamantine arrows(for constructs) and a Quiver of Elhona (or Two). I don't thing enchanted arrows are really worth the effort in LG - 50 +1 Flaming arrows cost almost as much a +1 Flaming bow so if you want flaming just get the bow. If you could get singles enchanted ammo might be worth exploring. My PC's Quiver of Elhona is loaded as follows: 12 Adamantine Arrows 12 Blunt Arrows 24 Cold Iron Arrows 12 Silver Arrows (the character volleys 3 or 4 arrows a round dependent on being hasted) 1 Darkwood long spear 1 Glave 4 Guisarmes 10 Javelins 1 +1 Seeking Mty+2 Composite Longbow 1 +1 Sacred Mty+3 Composite Longbow J |

The second compartment of a Quiver of Ehlonna "holds up to eighteen objects of the same general size and shape as a javelin. The third and longest portion of the case contains as many as six objects of the same general size and shape as a bow (spears, staffs, or the like)." I've yet to meet a judge that would allow a polearm that is 2-3 foot longer with a much larger blade secured to its end to fit in the quiver. Some even quibble at carrying a longspear in it. Fortunately, it's not usually a problem to carry 1 or 2 longspears normally when that happens - but carrying 4-5 guisarmes could be a problem. If your judges are more generous in their interpretation, great. Just don't count on it. Patty |

Be able to stow polearms in a Quiver of Elhona must be a regional thing. Anyway the consensus here is that since you can put long spear in there or strung composite longbow then polearms aren't going to be an issue. J |
