A) In LG, are there any restrictions on exotic weapons from the PHB?

B) What are the guidelines for Improved Familiar? Can you only take one of the creatures listed with the feat, or is there some formula to find out what caster level you have to be to have a given creature?

A) No. You may purchase any exotic weapon in the PHB, including masterwork versions. You may become proficient with any exotic weapon in the PHB as long as you have a BAB of +1 or greater and spend the proficiency.

I don't think you can take any improved familiar without both access and the feat. I could be mistaken and all PCs start with some core access to improved familiars (I don't have time to look it up for you) Either way you must have the feat.

I talked to a local Triad member last night and he clarified some stuff. Anyone with the feat can choose something from the table accompanying Improved Familiar. Any other type has to appear on an AR.
