It is possible that an AR will grant access to it - I've seen access to other limited classes granted in that fashion. But your best bet is to write/email your local triad to request a special mission. The exact procedure varies from region to region, but your triad will tell you how to go about it. If your mission is approved, an adventure will be written for your character (and likely for up to 5 companions) that hopefully will give you the chance to gain the access. Special missions are pretty neat because they're "just for you" (though I've heard that some regions have some slightly generic adventures that are customized to your pc for things like mounts and certain prestige classes.) You won't gain any magic item access, and you'll gain half the gold of a regular adventure. And special missions require some patience... they take time to arrange and write, so don't expect to be able to do one next month. Patty |
| Lomiat03-22-06, 09:51 AM | Another note regarding special missions: 1) As the Triad are people who typically work a part-time job to coordinate LG events in which they can't play--in addition to whatever jobs they work normally--and whatever demands they have from their normal lives--you can probably expect they're too busy to want to jump at every special mission request they receive. It helps your chances to wait to request a special mission until after you've played at a few conventions and managed to meet the Triad, face to face, maybe helped them out by DMing and/or writing adventures, and basically given a little back to the community. 2) The special mission I requested and organized is finally coming together this next Tuesday after I requested it, I think, in November. Honestly, I think the process has gone a little more quickly than it might have simply because I'm leaving state, and people have made some efforts to accomodate my schedule. 3) Hence, I wouldn't recommend that you count on a special mission to grant you access to anything. If a PRC requires silly feats that do you no good unless you get the PRC, you may wish to think twice about pursuing it. If it's not too far off the beaten path, purse a more standard progression initially, see what your ARs grant you, then--if all goes well--request a special mission when you're closer to the breaking point. I'd recommend asking near the end of a year (when you're pretty much out of TUs) for something for the next year; that way you have less time to level up and miss your chance to steer your character the appropriate way with a feat or skill points or what have you. Hope this helps. |

It's tough to tell where the triads will go now that meta-orgs are so limited in offering things, but it used to be that if the triad didn't offer access, they didn't think it fit. I would not be surprised to see a decree coming down from the circle that special missions can not provide access to lmiited feats or prestige classes. Ed |

I would not be surprised to see a decree coming down from the circle that special missions can not provide access to lmiited feats or prestige classes. I *would* be surprised to see such a decree. MetaOrgs may only offer access to a very few limited prestige classes, (I think each region can offer only 8 through metaorgs), so only a few of the most appropriate classes for the region are going to be offered in that fashion. A few more will be given access via ARs. But a lot of prestige classes (even some core p-classes) require events that simply are not likely to happen in regular play: meet your somewhat obscure deity/extra-planar critter/elemental in a friendly interaction, best a member of that group in single combat, be invited to join this group, survive a night of drunken revelry, etc. Special missions are likely the ONLY way they're going to be met. But special missions involve a lot of extra work for the triad - even if they've got some volunteers to actually write the missions, they still have to edit and approve them. And they may not feel it appropriate to grant access to every p-class that players want. So check with the triad about the possibility before you build your pc towards a limited p-class, counting on a special mission to gain access. They'll tell you if they'll allow it, and the sort of conditions required to make it possible, (Some regions have far more volunteers to help with such things than others.) And sometimes you'll be pleasantly surprised - they may already have a mission written up that can be adapted for your character. So ask them asap if bonded summoner is a p-class you can reasonably plan for your character. Patty |

The last couple of meta-org revisions came about because some region was being too loose with feats, prestige classes and magic items. I expect the same thing to happen with special missions. Ed |
