| EberronMoses09-30-06, 12:48 AM | I have a barbarian and i would like him to have a pet trained hawk. How can i pull this off in an acceptable way. I know theres some sort of way for me to pull this off legally. Nebody here that can help me out? |
| paigeoliver09-30-06, 12:19 PM | A single level of Druid or Beastmaster is the best way to do it legally. There is also the "Hawk that doesn't do anything" option. In which you say you have a hawk, but he doesn't do anything. |
| The_Jester09-30-06, 12:56 PM | I believe you can have someone with Handle Animal make a train attempt for a hawk purchased. But this takes TUs. |
| EberronMoses09-30-06, 07:38 PM | so its ok, to have an animal that doesn't do nething, cool, I'll do this. My half orc barb will have some sort of pet. Maybe a bunny, Grugg like bunny.... Make good stew in pinch too *spoken in some common breaking into orcish" |

Still, if the hawk is just a role-playing tool than I doubt many DMs are going to object to its presence. Just remember that this does mean it cannot alert your character to any danger, or grant any in game benefit at all. Although at high levels it probably does not live very long. Area of effect spells are rather devastating on the poor falcon. If the PHB contains the price of a falcon, you can use it by the standard rules as discussed in the LGCS and the standard boilerplate text for animals. |

It eventually froze to death when we didn't have enough endure elements for everyone. But you have a very easy and legal way to have a funtional hawk for your character. You take the feat "Skill Focus: Handle Animal" and take one level of the class "Beastmaster", that will get you a 3 hit die hawk or eagle as an animal companion, and you will still increase your base attack bonus and savings throws. Or you can take a single druid level and get a 1 hit die hawk or eagle, but it probably won't mesh with your character as well, and you will lose a base attack bonus. |
| clik_ml10-02-06, 07:40 AM | Chickens are listed as commodities. http://www.d20srd.org/srd/equipment/wealthAndMoney.htm For a mere 2cp you can get a chicken, and name it Hawk. With your chicken Hawk, you could get by perhaps... so long as you don't want to use it for anything other than roleplay. You could even train your chicken Hawk using handle animal. Chickens aren't statted, but I doubt any DM would mind accepting the stats of a raven minus the fly speed, so long as you are up front about it. So there's the joke option anywho. |
