| control freak08-08-07, 03:39 PM | i recently found something on the CO boards of DnD if you have a candle of invocation, you can use it to get a solar, which wishes for another candle and still has it for 17 rounds AND gets a free merical spell and never mind it being a 20th level cleric... and a CR 23... it works, its bad and its annoying, (if not compleatly broken) it can also give you a TON of money can any one tell me if this is permited? |
| bitznarf08-08-07, 04:29 PM | This is an old trick. But regardless I highly doubt you'll never get access to a candle of invocation. Besides which in the grand scheme of things what you just proposed is really quite low on the list of things that can be broken with a single candle of invocation. I expect the return of Divine Metamagic, Divine Spell Power, and nightsticks before I expect to see a candle of invocation in the hands of a PC. |

Yes, assuming you get the right Candle for the job. And you've stumbled on probably the laziest use for the Candle. Why have a single Solar when you can have 1.95x10^n Solars instead? Or +6 to all stats for you, your allies, and the entire town of Southkeep? Along with a pile of Candles. Gate abuses are like shooting fish strapped to the end of a shotgun. They're probably the reason why I cannot forsee any Chaotic or Good Candle ever being allowed in any LG module for any reason. Let alone a Candle period. Edit: Aww...I took too long... |

| Drezden08-08-07, 05:18 PM | I've seen Candles on ARs - there was a year 3 or 4 Core mod which had one as a choice of items in the favor section of the AR. There are other favors which have semi-open access, e.g. anything in the DMG under 25K, etc. that could be used foe them. I have also seen them used in LG. Someone used 1 to Gate in a Solar for some special healing actions. Daren |

| Mattastrophic08-08-07, 05:54 PM | I've seen them used several times. My main character passed up Adventure access on one recently, but could spend a favor to get Metaregional access if he wants. They're around. As to the original poster's questions: LGCS limits what you (and Solars) can do with Wish and Miracle. -Matt |
| bitznarf08-08-07, 06:09 PM | Eh, I had forgotten about the limits set on Wish and Miracle by the LGCS. With those limits in place, the candle of invocation isn't nealy so bad. |
| control freak08-08-07, 06:39 PM | ok but still i had the ablity to make one item open access (at least i believe thats how the favor was worded) from table X, or Z and it was on the table, and thats kind of amazeing that for a mear 8,4k you go "ok i win mod X Mod X gives me >8.4k i win free GP/XP" |
| Mattastrophic08-08-07, 08:08 PM | Actually, make that: "So, you blew more than the gold you'll be making on an item that Living Greyhawk encounters are nowhere near difficult enough to make necessary, just for one of those encounters... AND the rest of the team spanked said encounter faster than you could summon the Solar?" (Remember, it's a standard action to light it, then another action to cast Gate) Sure, go for it, dude. -Matt |
| control freak08-08-07, 08:49 PM | remember that you have unlimited angels matt:P  so technecaly you will have them all day provided you go "gate" get a candle and have him cast some of his nifty cleric spells then ask HIM to cast gateto exponentialy up your candle count (could spend a hour doing this and have 100s of candles... (and theres a mod i know of that 1 solar angel couldnt handle alone due to unscaleables) |

(and theres a mod i know of that 1 solar angel couldnt handle alone due to unscaleables) How is he casting gate? It's not on the "standard" solar spell list, and neither wish nor miracle can duplicate it. Per the LGCS, unless you have campaign documentation permitting otherwise, called creatures must perform an immediate task, at which point they return to their home plane. If you do have documentation permitting you to call a specific/unique creature, then it is not compelled to obey your request... |
| Potato Weasel08-09-07, 08:26 AM | Remember that if you use a candle in a mod, even if you get another for free, you cant keep it. Also, you cant make more gold than the apl allows for, so youd be losing money even if you wished for gold. |
| control freak08-10-07, 08:51 AM | Or you could use it to make yourself a deity |
| Vanadium08-10-07, 09:39 AM | Or you could use it to make yourself a deity Except that Pazuzu's DC 25 Knowledge check is NONC, Sarrukhs are tied explicitly to Forgotten Realms history, and Polymorph any Object is a Closed spell. Yep. Deityhood. |
