| pedr06-18-07, 09:45 AM | Did I do this right? Yesterday my 3rd level wizard got captured by slavers. Um, for the second time, but that's by-the-by. Anyway, they obviously stole all her stuff and it was a good few months before she was rescued by kind people who gave her a bit of money to get back on her feet. This amount of money was less than 675 which is 1/4 of the 3rd level entry on the PC wealth by level table on page 135. My somewhat hasty reading of the LGCS seemed to suggest that I could invoke Charity of Friends, spend 10 TUs and end up with a total of 675 gp and a replacement spellbook. Is that correct? Incidentally, it didn't happen, but if I'd not quite had enough TUs, could I have used next years' to pay for Charity of Friends? It seems a little rough to leave the possibility of someone without a spellbook and/or without any equipment if they have less than 10TUs at the end of an adventure with which to pay for Charity of Friends. |

| darrell_uk06-18-07, 12:15 PM | Nope, we were surprised by a group of four orcs, which included two F2s with spiked chains, attacking at +6(? at least), doing 2d4+9 damage, at APL 2, with three 1st level characters at the table! |
| pedr06-18-07, 01:18 PM | Strength 22 Orcs, no less. Methinks this is why core modules now have NPCs with the elite array (these Orcs were nearly min-maxed 28 point builds.) Of course I didn't have an opportunity to cast any spells on party-members in this battle as we went in despite me being out of spells. Earlier in the module I managed to blind our monk with a glitterdust, though, so I'm keeping my average up :D |
| awroe06-18-07, 01:38 PM | At least she was noticed... Perhaps more riding dogs to blind next time? I think it was clarified that the 10TUs was transferrable into next year, but I can't remember where. |

Yeah, that mod slipped past the editors but at least the brutality of it made some changes in writing guidelines going forward. I was told to make sure my NPC's had elite array last special mission I wrote (My response was "that's what I was going to do anyway..."). That mod also featured characters who spent all of their wealth/level plus some of the wealth/level of the other NPC's in the encounter into really powerful weapons for the APL. It may have broken the guidelines, but at a minimum, the ratio was so screwed up I even mentioned to the PC's early on when they were gathering info about the region that folks there tended to have cheap armor and expensive weapons as a cultural thing, so disguise accordingly :) |
