| Puggle Halfwine06-14-06, 12:44 AM | Hey guys, I have a quick question regarding clerics in LG. Can you make a cleric who draws power from, say, Erevan Ilesere- but then tell PC's/NPC's you worship Pholtus? This would, naturally, involve wearing the holy symbol of Pholtus most of the time; except during prayer to replenish spells, or in times where the character is certain that there arn't any Pholtans around. Cheers, Puggle. |
| paigeoliver06-14-06, 12:55 AM | Why not? My CG "Paladin" (Fighter/Marshall), has 61 holy symbols and regularly changes who he is venerating at the moment to whatever is most appropriate at the time. |
| Iswald06-14-06, 09:10 AM | Can your character lie to other PCs? Sure. Of course, there may be cases where the DM would need to know what deity your character truly worships. Depending upon the region, this could have unfortunate consequences. |

Or when casting any spell with a "divine focus" component, or when turning undead... |

If you need to disguise your deity as part of a module, infiltrating the evil city, bandit kingdoms etc, that's one thing and judges are going to let it pass. Otherwise, you're looking at trouble. As pointed out, you need the holy symbol for virtually all your spells, so it's not really practical. Ed |

Hmm... that just sounds... wrong... to me. If you're in a party with two clerics (of different deities), you'll just change who your character worships to get the max benefit from Recitation, for example? |
| paigeoliver06-15-06, 04:03 AM | No, no no. I have NO Deity on my character sheet and THAT is my official one. This has absolutely nothing to do with munchkining out spell effects. I am not even sure what the spell you are talking about does. It has everything to do with playing a hero who is a bit of a rascal and isn't above claiming the title of Paladin. If he is going into Tusmit he wears a holy symbol of Al-Akbar, in Dyvers he will wear one of Zilchus, in Verbobonc it is St. Cuthbert. While travelling in the Gnarley forest I'll change to one of the various nature dieties. I even have holy symbols of the various racial dieties as well. The character is a (former) "famous actor" who did a long running show where he played a vampire hunter. The backpack full of holy symbols is part of his schtick (if one doesn't work then pull out the next one). Along with his masterwork club that has one end sharpened for staking vampires. Right now he operates as a mercenary captain (leading an unofficial metaorg that has about 20 members), but will still perform from time to time when the opportunity arises. Hmm, I am really one holy symbol short though, I need one for IUZ as I'll be returning to the Bandit Kingdoms soon. Hmm... that just sounds... wrong... to me. But you forget, the deity named has offers the trickery domain. :D I am willing to bet that the character worships that aspect of the deity. I remember a cleic of Olidimara who called on Pelor for healing and turning. People tend to watch their purses less closely around Pelorites than Olidimarans; its so unfair. :) Of course she did let the true faithful know what was going on. |

I am not even sure what the spell you are talking about does. Ah, my apologies then. I remembered someone speculating about that a year or two ago (IIRC), so I overreacted. (the spell, by the way, grants allies of the caster a +2 bonus to attack, saving throws, and armor class, but the bonus increases to +3 for those who worship the same deity as the caster) |
| Lupo06-17-06, 11:09 PM | a deity with the trickery domain will watch with great fun one of his/her priest disguising under the flag of any deity he/she/it dislikes. and having a holy symbol with two sides or a "inner" true symbol would be totally in line with such a deity. ciao martin m. |
