Hi to all, and sorry if this topic is redundant/useless. :D

I was looking for a way to know how the history of the Flanaess has changed from 591 CY (Living Greyhawk Gazetteer) and 597 CY (current Living Greyhawk Campaign, if I recall correctly).

I mean, I know there were major changes (the reclaiming of the Vesve, for example, or the coup in Nyrond, or the death of Countess of Urnst).
Is there a place/file/thing where I can find the Flanaess' recent history without jumping from a LGC site to another? It would absolutely be something really useful.

Thanks in advance.
J :)

As far as I know, no, no attempt has been made to consolidate the events of the LG campaign into an update to the LGG. Some regions have done a good job of summarizing events in their regions; others haven't (and I'm not sure that anyone's taken on summarizing what's happened in the Core regions). To be honest with you, even though a project like this would be very interesting to some players, it likely falls fairly low on the to-do lists of the campaign staff.

Also, just so you know, the LG adventures from CY 596 and CY 597 are still "active" (that is, they're still playable), and thus, any discussion of "events" from those years would likely be considered to be spoilers for those adventures. So, only the events from CY 591 through CY 595 would be eligible to be discussed / disseminated, anyway.

Living Greyhawk needs a Wiki.
Lock access except for the Circle and Triads. Give the Triads the ability to let writers edit as well.
Write a small section for each region and the Core plus a lengthy history.

Know anyone that can host a wiki?

I just checked and Wikipedia already has an entry for Living Greyhawk, which, while incomplete, looks good and links back to the official RPGA site for Living Greyhawk and the LGCS.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Living_Greyhawk

Don't know if the circle or Wizards have a problem with this though, but it does exist.

There's the actual Wiki. They sometimes host others.
Or http://pbwiki.com/ which is free but limited. There's a few out there.
Or someone could take the wallet-hit and host it themselves.

A RPGA-site might not be a bad idea.
Pass around the plate and have all the Circle plus the Faction Masters for Xen'drick chip in a couple bucks each month and host a communal wiki-site for histories, updated campaign documents, lengthy FAQs, setting and place descriptions and up-to-date histories.

Since the wiki-format is so easily used former and current authors could send in .txt summaries of past events and adventures (ie retired stuff, I'd love to know what I missed in years 1-4) that could just be cut-n-pasted onto the site by anyone with authority.

Of course, I didn't say it was necessary... I think it would just be useful.
After all, it would be much more easy to write adventures and campaigns keeping the "big picture" under your eyes. ;)

It'd be simple too.
Just write the intro and blurbs for the top of each page then pass it on to the Triads and let 'em at it. The authors or current writers of the Player's Guides can be given a short word limit and told to summarize the "must know" information about their region.

Meanwhile, regular Core writer (ie people who can be trusted not to redesign the wheel) could be hit up for regions in the Core.

Give 'em all access to the timeline section and tell them to add key moments in free time. A couple dozen people adding a line or two or touching up a year will fill in the major events in a matter of weeks.

You could request that Wizards add one to the RPGA site. It'd take an hour out of some web-dev's afternoon, but after that they're very easy to maintain and not much of a server load issue.

If anyone knows the available software, costs, and server reqs, that might help my conversations with the WotC web people.

Oh, wait. There's already a topic with the same name. :D

Software:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_wiki_software
The majority of them are free and Open Source.

Server costs would likely be anywhere from $15-40/month depending on space, bandwidth and number of features. If the potential wiki was piggybacked onto the main website/server then costs would drop.
The servers themselves would likely be running Apache which is Open Source as well.

I'm not the best tech-boy so if anyone else can pop in and voice some better numbers, examples of specifics it'd be great.

That makes me a Polytheist. Good. :D

I'd be absolutely interested in working at the project... At least assuring its Italian translation. ;)

That info will help a lot, thanks. So anyone have any experience with admining different wiki software? I'm curious what the pros and cons are of each, other than the features. If WotC can't host it, I'll look at setting something up whenever we get the BK site moved to a new server.

This is a great idea! If setting this up involves some kind of cost, I'd be happy to send a PayPal donation for $20.

I am not a tech-boy either, but I found this: http://d20npcs.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Worth a try? ^_^

Sorry to bother... No news about this "mini-project"?
