| TimRat04-08-08, 05:31 PM | "What is the real price of The Amulet of Cairn Hills from COR INTRO 7-04 Ritual of the Damned It's listed as 2000gp in the Favor Section and 15,000gp in the Item Access Section." The real price is 2,000 gp as listed in the favor section of the adventure. the 15,000 was for an older item list that wasn't replaced for some reason. Hope this clears up any confusion. |
| Timlagor04-09-08, 08:16 AM | Thanks! |
| Timlagor04-09-08, 08:19 AM | Could you clear up how the item itself works too? Does it stay active once activated or is each activation a single use? If it stays active then for how long? [seems to be an action for each use but then goes on to imply that it isn't] |
| Vamroc04-09-08, 01:51 PM | The PC can activate it as an IMMEDIATE ACTION it has five charges and each time the charactor is attacked by Undead any physical attack, spell, or special ability being used by them is unsuccessful against the charactor. However it also states "all attacks by Undead" before it mentions which ones on the AR. It can not be crafted and once all the charges are use It can not be recharged by any means. It's my opinion that Spell Like Abilities fall under the "spell" aspect of the protection. Even if the PC is granted protection via another charactor in the party it still burns the charges. So a Lich could use Summon Undead 1 and burn all the charges with a group of lvl 1 skeletons and then STOMP them with Summon Undead V Wyrven Zombie. NO WHERE DOES IT MENTION THAT THE ATTACKS HAVE TO BE SUCCESSFUL IT SIMPLY STATES THAT THE PC MUST BE ATTACKED BY UNDEAD. Judging by the way I read it the PC get the option of an immediate action to activate in case the PC is in a surprise round for example and he / she want to save their hide before buffs are up. Each attack made against the PC by an Undead creature constitutes the use of one charge and NO WHERE DOES IT MENTION THE AMULET NEEDS TO BE ACTIVATED BEFORE THE ATTACK it only states that the pc can do so if she or he wants to as an Immediate action. |

| Vamroc04-09-08, 02:48 PM | Now that we've heard from the peanut gallery, perhaps we could get an explanation of intent and ruling on the item? Ruling hahahaha have you forgoten where you are.:D |
| TimRat04-09-08, 04:10 PM | Ya i'll give a ruling. its an immediate action thus the poster earlier had it down right as to how it functions. however since its an immediate action to activate the PC is the one that chooses whether or not they want the amulet to activate. thus if, like in the example above, the undead caster calls forth a bunch of undead with summon undead you can let the undead hit you and not call forth the powersr of the amulet to save you. thus not wasting the charges. hope that clears it up. Tim Sech VTF Circle and person who created the item. (should have written it a bit clearer) |

Tim Sech VTF Circle and person who created the item. (should have written it a bit clearer) That makes the item more helpful because you don't waste charges on something dumb like an undead creature with bite, claw, claw, rend, and thus using up four charges in one round. |
| TetsujinOni04-09-08, 05:05 PM | Ruling hahahaha have you forgoten where you are.:D Yeah, a place where the circle reads and rules on things which are not core rules. As this demonstrably is not a core rules item, but a custom item on the AR... Thanks, Tim. It's a pretty cool item with those clarifications! |
| Timlagor04-09-08, 10:10 PM | Well I was trying to avoid spoilers.. but anyway. It says that all attacks use up charges. What is not clear is whether the amulet remains active once activated or needs to be activated for each charge. The follow-on text implies that is stays active since the player would otherwise just choose not to activate it for those attacks but no mention of duration or the ability to deactivate is made. TimRat: I think you are saying that each charge is a seperate activation.. is that right? It would mean: - you don't waste any charges - you can only use one charge per round [and it costs a valuable action each time] Vamroc: you can't take an immediate action while flat-footed. |
| TimRat04-11-08, 10:26 AM | ya you choose when to activate it so activating it once doesn't mean that it 'stays on' for the duration. so you can choose when it comes up. so say you get hit with an attack that you dont like lol, u activate it as an immediate action. then a simple hit from an undead skeleton comes at you and you dont care about it then simply dont activate it and another charge won't be used. hopes this clears up things. sorry bout the confusion. |
| Timlagor04-11-08, 07:53 PM | All clear now thanks |
