If I have a favor that grants me "adventure access to one of the following items..." and one of the following items is a Sacred Weapon upgrade that does NOT allow me to craft a sacred weapon because it does not appear in the "items found during the adventure" portion of the AR. This is as I understand it but it seems a bit weird that despite the fact i have had access to the upgrade, because it didn't appear in the right box on the AR I can't craft it Thanks |
| Suvarov45406-02-07, 09:26 AM | That is my understanding as well. I have a similar situation: I can use a favor to add Bane to a magic weapon, but it isn't in the Items Found section of the AR, so I can't craft it myself. Thus it'll cost me 6000 GP instead of 3000 GP, 240 XP, and 2 TUs. |
| DuctShuiTengu06-02-07, 01:12 PM | My understanding of the logic behind it runs about as follows: If you find the item during an adventure, you have the opportunity to study it to figure out how it works and reverse-engineer the magic that goes into it. If Joe-NPC volunteers to craft the item for you, then you never actually had the item, and thus the opportunity to reverse-engineer it. So unless the favor also says that Joe-NPC is willing to teach you how to craft it, you don't know how. |
| Suvarov45406-02-07, 05:02 PM | Oh, I'm not complaining, exactly; I'm merely pointing out that a favor is a different reward from item access, but that there are lots of costs to consider in judging an item or favor's worth. |

I guess it just makes sence to me that if someone is willing to enhance something for you they wouldn't mind letting you watch while they do it for someone else. Another problem I see is that I don't imagine our party will be killing any NPCs that are carrying around holy and sacred weapons. Also that being the case, the most exciting thing my sixth level cleric, with almost 30 ARs, has access to craft is.. your not going to believe this-Glamered armor. Sure I've found a +2 dagger and a +1 silvered heavy mace but their both core. The only access that has been opened up to me on the craft magic arms and armor front has been glamored armor. I think I'll be taking a different feat |

I think I'll be taking a different feat yea, access often falls upon those of yours characters that can't do anything with it  if your cleric is one of the fighting types, i still would stick with craft arms & armor, you know, the moment you have retrained it, you will wade knee deep in fancy weapon enhancements that come with weapons you don't like ;) or just calculate what the costs are, for doing a flip-flop retrain. and fancy enhancements are more often found on APL 8 + bounty lists ;). my 13th level cleric has access to bane human, elf, aquatic, orcs, flaming, lightning, returning, and lots of other fancy stuff, but he isn't into the A&A crafting :D ciao martin m. |
| Timlagor06-02-07, 10:32 PM | Expect some of the weird enhancement access to migrate from favours to found items now that the rules for non-casters upgrading things have appeared. (the restrictive nature of it means that favours will still be generally preferred though -for weapons at least) ..the bit that really makes no sense is that once you have an itme on your MIL so that you can study it as much as you like.. you can't work out how to craft one unless you happen to have picked one up for 5 minutes once when you killed its owner. |

I was concerned about this too, as I'm looking at CA&A for my ranger at 12th. So, I looked at the higher level access for the mods I played and found that the access really opens up on better enhancements at APL10+. Take a look at your 30ARs, down at the list in the stuff you didn't get. The basic issue is that a bad guy has to be carrying an 8000gp weapon for you to loot it from his gasping corpse....er...liberate it. David |
