| Lupo197705-23-07, 05:14 AM | the discussion was finished in another forum, but i need the answer for LG , so as suggested by amurayi i post it here again. the question (and answers) so far: ****************** hello community, got a question i play a sorcerer1/fighter4 my char has the feat "practised spellcaster" do i fulfill the requierments for the "craft wonderous Item" Feat (PHB), so i could take it at 6th level (my fifth fighter level)? from SRD : Craft Wondrous Item [Item Creation] Prerequisite Caster level 3rd. Benefit [...] (i do not want to discuss about how much sense the class-combo makes, or how i could fulfill the preq. by taking other classlevels - ist just about "practised spellcaster and the preq. for crafting feats) thanks for your help **************************** The prerequisite for Wondrous items is a caster level of 5. Practiced Spellcaster adds 4 to your caster level, which would give you a caster level of 5 total. You can't get much more official than the direct wording of the feats.I'm not entirely sure why you were looking for errata, but there isn't any because it's explicitly worded in the feats. ****************************** The caster level requirement is 3, not 5. Practised spellcaster adds to you caster level, so yes, the character qualifies. Of course, you'll still have to have the spells required for creating individual wondrous items. Stat boost items, for example, require 2nd level spells. ***************************** okay, cool. i can buy scrolls for the 2nd level spells, the scrolls casterlevel is 3 (for bullīs strenght i.e.) i cast "read magic" then i have to do a casterlevel check against DC 3+1 = 4 with the PS-feat my casterlevel is 5 so itīs an automatic success or i hire a spellcaster as described in PHB page 129 for 60GP for one bullīs strenght per day. this is how it should work... ? ******************************** No, there is no caster level check. You only make a caster level check if your own caster level is lower than the scroll's caster level. The scroll's caster level is 3. Your caster level is 5. 5 is not less than 3, so no caster level check. You do, however, need at least a 12 Charisma. (I assume you have it.) ********************************** I think you have to have the spell available to you every day, so you would need to have 1 scroll available for each day to cast just as the hired spellcaster would have to cast multiple spells. That's a lot of scrolls. ***************************** It might work in a home campaign. If you want to do this in Living Greyhawk you have to ask in the forum there. ******************************* so my question : 1. will it work in this way for LG too ? 2. is it possible to substitute the scrolls with : 2a - an NPC (i got some favors , that several NPCs will cast certain spells for me) 2b. - another player character, capable of casting the desired spell, who spends the same amount of TUs as my charakter (i.e. 8 TUs each for Gloves of Dex +6) thanks for your answers :-) |
| Timlagor05-23-07, 08:40 AM | 1) PrC does qualify you to take the Feat 2) You don't need a Cl check to use a scroll if your CL is high enough regardless of whether you can actually cast the spell on the scroll (so long as it's on the spell list for which you have the CL) 3) You cannot get NPCs or other PCs to cast spells towards your Crafting 4) You need 1 scroll per day to craft with scrolls but this is allowed I think that covered everything... |
| Lupo197705-24-07, 01:50 AM | wonderful so far. the solution with the scrolls is already fine for me, but : "3) You cannot get NPCs or other PCs to cast spells towards your Crafting" where do you get this information from ? |
| chesspiece05-24-07, 08:43 AM | From LGCS 7.0.1 pg 15. (v7.5 won't open for me ATM) You can craft any item for which you meet the crafting prerequisities and... Therefore 'you' must meet all the prerequisites on your own. It has been clarified in the past that the Circle & Triads don't want PCs to be able to use other PCs / cohorts / NPCs to help them with crafting. |
| Timlagor05-24-07, 10:04 AM | LGCS 7.5 requires Acrobat 7.0 or later. If you are rnning Win98 (or earlier) try Foxit |
