I have tried ever which way to create an account on this convoluted mess that Wizards call a website. The best I have done is to create a Help account. HELP!?! |

Provided it's been a month or so since that time, you have an account waiting for you. All you have to do is log in by clicking the "sign in" link on wizards.com/rpga. The problem is that you don't know your password (or, really, that you don't have one). You'll have to call the 800 number and have them reset your password so that you can log in. I don't know why WotC started doing this. Things were great (at least on our end) when you could sign up for RPGA over the web. Now, though, it's a hassle to become a member, and that can't be what's best for the hobby. |

If so, check with the Senior GM (organiser) that the event has actually been reported, then get in touch with Wizards. Until recently, the accounts were automatically - or semi-automatically - activated as soon as a Senior GM entered the new RPGA number and the new member's name into the reporting system. It seems that this is no longer happening, or not happening as quickly. It may be that processes have changed at WotC/DCI/RPGA which mean that they wait for receipt of the form attached to the card before activating the account, but this hasn't been announced anywhere. If you're sure that the number has been used to report that you've played in an event, call the 800 number or contact the RPGA via http://wizards.custhelp.com and explain the problem - in detail and patiently. I've had some success getting a number activated for a player via the customer help website, though it took about a week. If you haven't played in an event yet, your best bet is to wait until you have, and then going through the above procedure. |

In my own experience, however, and some fellow players, the actual initial password set was for Renton, (HQ), and would be either wa98057 or WA98057. |

Now, though, it's a hassle to become a member, and that can't be what's best for the hobby. It's because: (a) minors can (and are encouraged to) join the RPGA (b) the RPGA is an international organization, and the Web ignores national boundaries (c) joining the RPGA requires submitting personal information, and (d) many countries (esp. in Europe) have extremely tough laws protecting personal information of minors on the internet In order to comply with the toughest legal requirements, WotC decided that they just wouldn't allow joining online. Yes, it's a bigger hassle, but they're covering themselves legally. (I guarantee you that they'd like to offer online registration, but, based on comments that Ian has made more than once, their lawyers have advised against it.) |
