Hey guys,

I'm just reading over this spell for my archer (it's from the Spell Compendium). Because it's not SRD material I can't put the spell description here, but I'm curious about the following sentence:

"Whenever you make a melee attack against a flanked foe or against a foe denied its Dexterity bonus, you..." do such and such.

Does this mean that a ranged attack against a foe denied its Dexterity bonus triggers the spell's effects?

If it doesn't, can anyone suggest a better spell for a low level archer wizard/fighter mix?

as an attack with any bow is never a "melee attack", even with arrow mind or the "initiate of the bow" feature, your quotation indicates you can't get the benefits for an archer.

i suppose you already have "arrow mind" or the "initiate of the bow" feature??

as a usefull swift spell for an archer i would look at "guided shot" (SpC, p. 108, core).

<snip>while this spell is in effect [runs 1 rd], your ranged attacks do not take a penalty due to distance [ok, mostly useful for throwers, not so much an issue for archers]. In addition, your ranged attacks ignore the AC bonus granted to targets by anything less than total cover [so your buddies don't give your foes cover, as well as other obstacles - doors and corners - are ignored], and also ignore the miss chance granted to targets by anything less than total concealment [helps agains "blur", "darkness" and 5-ft of "obscuring mist", but not against "invisibility", "displacement" is debatable, but i would count it as total concealment] .<snip>

I like Hunter's Mercy (SpC 117). Spell description not contained here for OGL reasons.

Hmm! Interesting spell. If only I had access...
