| Scheuerman06-05-06, 02:07 AM | Hello all, I just wanted to check in with you all and see what your thoughts are on the following combination: 01: Ranger (feats not important) 02: Paladin 03: Ranger (Devoted Tracker) 04: Paladin 05: Ranger 06: Ranger (Natural Bond* provided access is there) 07: Paladin 08: Paladin 09: Ranger (feats not important) 10: Paladin 11: Ranger 12: Paladin (feats not important) 13: Ranger 14: Paladin 15: Ranger (feats not important) I know it doesn't seem all sparkles and glamour, but with the devoted tracker feat and the natural bond I would expect that the animal companion / special mount will be very capable. I was thinking about this when I was reading about the Shadowbane Stalker PrC. Thoughts? |

I think starting with Ranger 1/Fighter 2/Paladin 5/Beastmaster 1 tends to give you a nice combo that you can then advance with any class that advances either Paladin's Mount or Animal Companion. |
| Scheuerman06-05-06, 01:08 PM | Feats in a general sense are important, but the Devoted Tracker feat allows the bonus stats for the Animal Companion (Ranger) and the Special Mount (Paladin) to stack. If you combined that with the Natural Bond feat then your Ranger Animal Companion level is the same as a straight Druid. The main goal of the build is just to get a companion animal that is as useful in combat as the character is. |

I am reasonably sure that a special mission would not be completely ruled out to get a different mount, as I know the Sandstorm Paladin alteration for Bright Lands characters can choose a different steed. Also there is the wyrm (sp?) rider PrC listed there. Thanks, Mommy! |
