| Swordlight09-25-07, 05:18 PM | Hey all rules research here... After using "Dimension Door" you can’t take any other actions until your next turn. However, I believe I've seen that others you bring with you cannot do anything for the remainder of the round as well. Example: You can't have all the fighters "ready" to smash the next enemy that comes within 5 feet of them and then Dim Door them within 5 feet of the monsters and have the readied actions go off. I am sure this is in the rules, but I am not seeing it in Questions & Answers, Errata, or anywhere else. Any and all help finding this hidden little rule would be appreciated. |

The reason you can't find it is that the rule doesn't exist. Only the caster is affected by the spell's restriction. I don't remember if that was true in 1st edition or 2nd but it is true in 3.0 and 3.5. The relevant text is in the dim door spell: "After using this spell, you can't take any other actions until your next turn. " The word "you" is consistently used to mean "The caster of the spell". Passengers are referred to differently. An example of the difference is the shunting wording: "...you and each creature traveling with you take 1d6 points of damage and are shunted to a random open space ..." Had they meant "you and any creature traveling with you can't take any actions until your next turn" they would have said so. That said, anticipate teleport can cause an effect like that, since it traps everybody for 1 or 3 rounds, depending on the spell version. |
