First post to this board so hello to you all.

I have a comment for those responsible for the DM Rewards programme...

First, it is an excellent bonus and this email is an attempt to improve something I feel is good and not a criticism.

I noticed recently that a DM of a Greyhawk Core module receives a reward of 2 points, whereas DMing a metaregional or a regional mod grants only a 1 point reward.

This is similar to Player Rewards which follow the same pattern.

Now, while I can understand a lower reward for players, as they have to expend fewer TU to play regional or metaregional modules, my point for consideration is this: a GM has to put in a similar amount of work to prepare and run regional modules as Cores, so it would be better if they were rewarded with 2 points for all types of LG modules DMed.

Indeed, for my region (Onnwal and The Splintered Suns Metaregion), I would go further and say that the time and effort needed to run a Regional (ONW) or Metaregional (TSS) module is significantly more than for a Core. I cannot speak for other regions, but ONW/TSS mods tend to be:

roughly twice as long in page length for a 1 round module;

expect the DM to be much more fully up to speed with local politics and history;

pull much more on favours, disfavours found on players' previous ARs;

tend to need more Role Playing encounters prepared.

Many thanks for your consideration,

Jason

Greetings Jason, how go the fortunes of the Thorns? :D

As for the issue raised, I too agree that the difference in DM effort is worth examining...Onnwal and Splintered Suns modules are written by very good writers who work a lot of politics and role playing in, which translates into a great deal of work for DMs...

Other regions are similar...A year 4 NMR metaregional is nearly 100 pages (and it's only one round :eek: )

Hi Rob,

(Thorns go well and Trinity Term is now planned, though there are many rumblings of how hard 'Key to the Grave' is from last night's premiere.)

Thanks for your support on the issue at hand here re DM Rewards. That was going to be the flaw in my argument: if other regions have mods more straightforward than Cores; clearly they do not! I don't think we have any 100 pagers out there but regularly come in at 50ish. Cores can be twentysomething sometimes.

Cheers

I saw that...The APL 4 on that mod is 10 pounds of murder in a 5 pound bag...The rest are no bed of roses either...

The problem is that the DM rewards points are not based on how much work is needed to prepare, in which case many Living Death modules would be at the top of the list, but on what HQ wants to promote.

Unless things have changed, DMs receive the same credit for one round modules as two round modules, which is a bigger problem.
