| nutellajoe01-07-06, 02:49 AM | I just got done playing NYR5-04-The Mad Duke at APL 4 and the AP says "Dragonhide (Black) armor* (Adventure; 30 gp; DMG) I looked at the the index and the only thing it talks about is its properties of Dragonhide on my armor and sheilds but it didn't talk about its AC Bonus, Max Dex, or anything else. I also looked at the Draconomicon and all it said was the armor had resistance to acid. coulds some one please help me!! Thanks in advance! |

One dragon produces enough hide for a single suit of masterwork hide armor for a creature one size category smaller than the dragon. By selecting only choice scales and bits of hide, an armorsmith can produce one suit of masterwork banded mail for a creature two sizes smaller, one suit of masterwork half-plate for a creature three sizes smaller, or one masterwork breastplate or suit of full plate for a creature four sizes smaller. In each case, enough hide is available to produce a small or large masterwork shield in addition to the armor, provided that the dragon is Large or larger. Because dragonhide armor isn’t made of metal, druids can wear it without penalty. Dragonhide armor costs double what masterwork armor of that type ordinarily costs, but it takes no longer to make than ordinary armor of that type. Dragonhide has 10 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 10. Thus, for the exact stats of your armor, simply look in the PHB and be sure to account for the masterwork. The fact that it comes from a black dragon is simply aesthetic since the Draconomicon isn't core access.. UNLESS the AR specifically states other properties and refers to that accessory. Given the cost you posted though (30 gp ?!?) I highly doubt it's magical. By all rights, it shouldn't even be masterwork unless a craftsman owed you a big favor... |

Dragonhide: Armorsmiths can work with the hides of dragons to produce armor or shields of masterwork quality . I think that answers your own point. The cost doesn't matter. There are many examples on where the costs on an AR are incorrect. However, you still go by what the AR says. |

| Arvagor01-07-06, 02:16 PM | So my Studded leather armor would become Studded Dragonhide armor with the properties of DragonhideStudded leather is not an option for dragonhide armor, and you can't "apply" dragonhide to an existing set of armor; the armor must be built "from scratch"... Keeping in mind that all Dragonhide armor is masterwork, and that it "costs double what masterwork armor of that type ordinarily costs" (DMG, page 284), the armor has to be one of the following types (cost): hide (330), banded mail (800), half-plate (1500), breastplate (700), or full plate (3500) (or may be any size shield). A gp cost of 30 doesn't match any of those; HOWEVER, it's possible that there was a typo, and if an extra "3" was left off, then it could be hide armor (what I'm leaning towards). I would suggest contacting the Nyrond triad to be sure. The fact that it comes from a black dragon is simply aesthetic since the Draconomicon isn't core access.. UNLESS the AR specifically states other properties and refers to that accessory. If the armor is Draconomicon-compatible, it should also be noted that the resistance to acid that black dragon armor presents applies only to the armor, and not to the PC inside ("For example, red dragon armor is impervious to fire. The character wearing the armor does not benefit from this property." - Drac, pg.116) |
