I have tried to make a build where this is viable (primary tank/minor offensive capibilities) Do you think this is alright? Dwarf/Fighter Str: 14 Dex:16 Con: 16 Intelligence 14 Wis: 8 Cha : 6 He will be wearing Breastplate by Lvl 2, with Heavy Steel Spiked Shield in One hand and Tower Shield in the other. Feats will go <Base fighter feats>' lvl1: <base figher feats> <Improved Sheild Bash> <Combat Expertise> lvl2: <dodge> lvl3: <mobility> lvl4: <spring attack> lvl6: <Whirlwind attack> <Elusive Target (CW)> thats all im up to right now, skills i have no idea what to put into, and im not sure what to do with my ability point at lvl 4. If I remember correctly the shield bonuses do not stack, therefore fighting with two shields you are only reducing your effectiveness. Better stick to tower shield + weapon combination. | Darobga02-18-05, 04:15 PM | Where does it state that shield bonuses dont stack? From what i read (i dont know how to do cool quote feature) "...the shield bonus from a sheild doesn't stack with other effects that grant a shield bonus, such as the shield spell." |
| kenobi6502-18-05, 04:29 PM | The general D&D rule is that named bonuses of the same type (i.e., a shield bonus) don't stack with each other. (There are notable exceptions, such as that dodge bonuses always stack.) |
| Darobga02-18-05, 04:34 PM | no way.......>_< that totally ruins my build...=/ i wish i could see where it said this... |
| kenobi6502-18-05, 05:06 PM | i wish i could see where it said this... Unfortunately, I don't have my DM's guide in front of me...but, IIRC, it's in there, in the section describing the different kinds of bonuses, and what sorts of effects they can give. |
| Darobga02-18-05, 05:54 PM | Alrightyyy thank you |
| kenobi6502-18-05, 07:07 PM | DMG, p. 21: "Identical types of bonuses do not stack, so a +3 longsword (+3 enhancement bonus) would not be affected by a magic weapon spell that grants a weapon a +1 enhancement bonus on attack and damage rolls. "Different named bonus types all stack, but usually a named bonus does not stack with another bonus of the same name, except for dodge bonuses and some circumstance bonuses." Sorry 'bout that, but better to learn about it now, rather than when you brought that PC to a table. |
