| Longthorn09-08-05, 10:50 AM | I recently gained access to several items including a masterwork Elven Lightblade and Elven Chain. My question is: are these items considered standard equipment? In other words can I upgrade these items to +1 using the LGCS as access? As a secondary question is Elven Chain inherently masterwork or would it need to be noted on the AR as masterwork(to be upgradable)? Thank you for any information you can share on this issue. |

You would need something like an AR access that allows you to upgrade an item a non-standard item. There are some of them floating around. For the Elven courtblade. Elven chain is made of mithril, mithril items are automatically considered masterwork. |

A nonstandard item is a magic item that has an ability not normally present in the DMG description of the item and/or additional rules to it. An item made of special material is a standard item. So for example, a cloak of resistance +2 that also gives a +10 to Hide is a nonstandard item while a +1 mithral chain shirt is a standard item. Table 7-3 on p.49 specifically lists Elven Chain as a standard item. I do not recall the description of the Elven Lightblade, but I don't think it fits the definition of "a magic item that has an abliltiy not normally present in the DMG description of the item and/or additional rules to it." For starters, it's not a magic item. |
