I have a favor that allows me to upgrade a weapon to have the bane (evil outsider) ability at half price. I have a masterwork cold iron weapon that I wish to upgrade (no current enchantments). I see four possible prices for this upgrade:

1. 5000 gp ((8000 gp (+2 enhancement) + 2000 gp (extra CI cost))/2)
2. 6000 gp (discount does not apply to extra CI cost)
3. 6000 gp (discount does not apply to original +1 enhancement, but does apply to extra CI cost)
4. 7000 gp (discount does not apply to extra CI cost or original +1 enhancement)

As you can see, this could be a considerable difference, and I need to make the upgrade by the beginning of June (Furyondy Interactives tend to be heavy on the evil outsiders). Could I get opinions or a circle ruling on which is correct? Here is the text of the favor (from an interactive, so no spoilers, and snipped a little):

The Furyondy military has agreed to place one of the three following enchantments upon a weapon of your choice: (three different upgrades). This upgrade can be done at half normal price.

Thanks for any help!

You should contact the Triad that issued the favor for clarification.

My guess would be that you pay full cost to enchant the weapon to +1. Then you use the favor to upgrade it with the bane evil outsider enhancement. I would allow the favor to cut the extra 2,000 gp cost for enchanting cold iron in half but you should check witht he local Triad to be sure.

You end up getting hit with the extra 2,000 gp charge twice since you are enchanting the weapon in two separate steps and two different access sources.

If you do the enchantements on the same AR they're considered "at the same time" for the extra cold iron 2,000 gp...However, it says only "the upgrade can be done at half normal price" that part seems pretty clear...

I would say 7,000gp:

2,000 (cold Iron extra)
2,000 (+1 Enchant)
3,000 (Half priced Bane)

However, it's a regional favor, just shoot an email to the Triad...Brian (the POC in Furyondy) is good about prompt responses...

I'd say 6,000. The favor specifically says on the weapon of your choice, so I think they'd pick up half the 2,000 GP cost for enchanting cold iron.

Upon reading the DMG, I think you're probably right...

p. 284 Any magical enhancements cost an additional 2,000gp.

So the enhancement itself costs 8,000 instead of 6,000, so half of that 8,000 is 4,000...Still check with the triad though (There is no need to ask the Circle about clarification on a regional AR)...

My guess is that it would be #5 (9000 gp), but that depends on the nature of the favor (so check with the Triad, as previously mentioned).

This assumes that the intent of the favor is to add the bane (evil outsider) ability to an existing magical weapon, added at the (NPC) MICer's cost, so it breaks down as:

Step 1: 4000 gp to enhance masterwork cold iron weapon to +1 (2000 gp for +1 enhancement, plus a 2000 gp materials cost for cold iron).
Step 2: 5000 gp to enhance +1 cold iron weapon to +1 bane cold iron weapon (3000 gp for the MICer's cost to add the ability, plus a 2000 gp materials cost)
