I'd like to propose that any character should be able play the Greyhawk mods except the 1st set, just as any character was able to play the Bright Sands mods.

I understand why that wasn't originally the case, but with the end of LG coming along, I'd very much like to focus on my favorite two characters - and not have to deal with the care and feeding of a low level character, desperately trying to get him up to 8th by mid-2008.

I'd much rather play my favorite low level character in those mods, as that means I have more mods for my other favorite character, to get her to high level, to play the LG conclusion.

Just a thought...

I'd have to second that. Having us make new characters at this point would be cruel. :(

Yeah this might not be a bad idea. From the meeting on Sat night at GenCon organized play did not likely know the future of 4E and living campaigns until they were already done with the Greyhawk Ruins plot-arc. So I don't think it was meant to be a low jab and they might have done things differently if they had known sooner.

Perhaps they will make some changes to the Greyhawk Ruins source-book in light of this new information that will offer a degree of flexibility.

I too like this idea. I currently have a character that is non to happy with her home region. Something about having to serve time in prision just because she volintared for a mission and then didnt' come back for a year, just didn't sit well. So going off to Grayhawk to blow off some steam could be fun.

Yeah, I want to see what Greyhawk has to offer but don't want to make a new character AND have to focus on them so they can make the minimum levels for the finale ABD EtCG.

Personally I'm planning on making a Greyhawk Ruins build that peaks early, and just plan on playing that character through the ruins.

I'd be just as happy with a different solution to the problem than what MwaO suggested, although his is the most straightforward. If the Greyhawk Ruins rules stay as they stand at the moment, however, I just won't play the CGR mods...not out of anger or protest, just disinterest. Like many others, I have no ambition whatsoever to develop new 1st level characters now.

I agree. I have a dozen PCs already and will not create a new 1st level to play one plot arc in a dying campaign. I probably won't be able to get more than a couple of my PCs to nice stopping points before the end.

I agree. I had a cool character idea for playing in the Greyhawk Ruins arc, but now I don't think I'll build it. If we can get the Greyhawk Campaign Sourcebook modified such that existing PCs can play in it, then I'll end up playing in it.

If not, then I doubt I will, and just focus on my higher level characters -- my Cleric or my Barbarian. (And even then, I was thinking of retiring my Barbarian, but I guess I'm not going to do so now).

Someone said it would take 42 ARs to get your PC high enough for the Ruins book.

I think that says that if you want to play Ruins, they need to provide faster advancement or something.

I'm just going to run it for a group without waiting for the adaptation, especially since my kobold won't ever see 5th level. There doesn't seem to be much point to running it within LG.

That's precisely my point - as an example, I have a 4th level character who'd be perfect to play the majority of APL 2-8 mods. He could easily hit 8th, play Greyhawk Ruins, and be 10th for the finale - without eating up the majority of midlevel mods.

When I saw Greyhawk Ruins on the Gen Con website, I couldnt help but think of the aptly named "Ruins of Raven's Bluff".

HI Everyone,

I want to run the first set of adventures for Living Greyhawk's version of Expedition to Greyhawk Ruins. I can only wonder how tightly they fit with rest of the story in the book.

I am excited about this book. I have looked through it. I am accustomed to a "module" format. This format seems broken because it is not a single page of a dungeon but several location in it.

The other issue is that there are several levels that are RPGA levels (or so I believe). I did not get to play these as Living Greyhawk because the levels are much lower than my current character. I decided to run them later as a GM, however I noticed that it is broken into 3 or more parts. One or two levels are to be played at GenCon Indy 2007. The next set at GenCon UK 2007, and the last at GenCon SoCal 2007, which is now cancelled! So I assume the final part will be released before the year is out. These combined levels will somehow take the party from 1st level to the start of level 8.

If anyone knows if I got all of this right, let me know. I want the whole set. I have to run and report Fields of Ruin before I can start getting more Greyhawk Ruins.

There are side missions that are "Web Enhancements". I already found and downloaded all of that. I would also assume more may be in the upcoming online versions of Dragon and Dungeon e-magazines. So we will all have to keep our eyes peeled!

Good Luck,

Just heard that all future modes will have TU 0, which sorta still makes it possible to run through greyhawk ruins. :D

My suggestion, if we're still going to make greyhawk ruins exclusive to new characters, is to make all the ARs give double rewards.

I.e., make all the modules 'specials' with double rewards, like some of the bright sands. Assuming we play only the 4 x 4 sets of greyhawk ruins, even with x2 rewards, we will get 32 ARs worth of XP. Then expedition can start on time and end in time perhaps for the characters to play the finale.
