| Newpaintbrush02-22-05, 11:03 AM | Newbie here. So my wizard has a raven familiar. Questions . . . 1. Animal companions can have a cape, necklace, and (something else, I think). Can a raven conceivably have stuff like that? 2. My wizard also has a level of bard, and has "Speak Language" skill for Draconic, Sylvan, etc. etc. Can the raven speak the languages too, since familiars use the skills that the PC has? (note: A toad wouldn't be able to speak, but as long as a raven CAN speak (supernatural ability), can it speak other languages?) |

I don't think you'd want to put barding on it. 2. I would say no. The PHB (52) specifically says a raven can speak one language of the master's choice as a supernatural ability. Ed |
| Newpaintbrush02-22-05, 05:48 PM | Ah. Thankee. Hm . . . "one language as supernatural ability", makes sense. I suppose the raven can understand and read Draconic, but can't speak it? I think that's right. Perhaps the raven can write Draconic, maybe scratching with its beak? Odd question, I know. . . gee . . . As far as barding goes, actually, I think that's a really good idea, giving a raven barding . . . I mean, he IS my bestest buddy, right? Why not give 'im a little protection? Of course, there's the problem that heavy barding would weigh 'im down . . . Thx for the reply! |
