Favor Tracker? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Just wondering what everyone out there uses to keep track of what favors/influence/bad things they have on their character. I'm trying to develop a spreadsheet that I could reference for different times in the mod. Or do most people just try to rely on memory? Right now I have it split up into different categories: before mod, during encounters, after mod, and other. This is just for things like being wanted by (insert group/name here), or free luxury upkeep for next three core adventures set in Greyhawk, etc...

Just wondering how everyone else handles this, mainly because I recently gained a benefit that gave me SR 25 for the next 4 adventures in a particular metaregion and I completely forgot about it because I didn't play that character for at least three months after I received the favor.

Looking for advice. Other than getting a better memory card for my brain.:D

Yeah...good question.

I've tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas. Anything suggested will probably be better than what I've done so far.

I make a 2 sided tent in InDesign - the front is a brief character description, sometimes with description. The back has a 'notes to self' section, where I list relevant favors, special abilities, things I use once in a mod - i.e. anything I'm likely to forget.

I also include things I need to buy - I find that helpful at a convention.

I use a piece of paper and a pen. Works wonders.

I use the travel log for my characters at the nyrond.org site.

I've seen spreadsheets used rather effectively.

My software (Metacreator) lets me attach a note to all xp changes which I can, in turn, print out a summary of on a single sheet. This works for me.

Sounds crazy but it might work

I ended up creating my own based on my region's Favor tracker. From there, it was just easy to add in every single favor (and AR it came from) onto it, so I could go back easily and check.

Yeah, I use spreadsheets as well to keep track of favours (although sometimes I get lazy and forget to update them for a while).

I also write a lot of permanent favours onto my character sheet (I use the standard LG character sheets):

- bonuses to skill checks: I write these in next to the skill, on the right-hand side of the 1st page (eg. "+2 w/ gnomes, -1 w/ the poor" etc)
- bonuses to saves: I'll write either in the conditional or temporary modifiers boxes
- special favours that I expect to come up very frequently in play: I write these on the top left of the 1st page (eg. stuff like "Cold Resistance 5 for the next 52 TUs", "reroll damage 1/day", etc)
- item purchases I intend to make within the next 1-3 ARs: top right corner of 1st page

I also find this extremely helpful if, for some reason, I'm called away from the table temporarily and have to get someone else to play my character in combat. By having pertinent favours written onto my character sheet, the other player will know to apply them.

Personally I just gave up tracking most things except for item access favors...just too much to worry about in the end...I'd rather suffer a character death than worry about the ten trillion situational +1 or +2's...

Your character sheet must be total chaos :D, i prefer to note them on a different sheet that i reorganize each time i get a new favor, stays clean and easy to refer to

See, personally, I love the little bonuses here and there.

I like the fact that my Half-Orc Monk, a guy who started out as a nobody with very little sense of self (ie 6 Cha), can, if necessary, start whipping out all kinds of titles and so forth that together make him a decent diplomat.

Oh I do like the permanent stuff...It's just all the random little single use situational tiny bonuses that I don't bother with...

I had a character die from an Evard's because I didn't remember that I had a one time Freedom of Movement. Ever since then I've use the character tracker on the Nyrond website. It's a pretty good tool and I recommend playing around with it before making your own.

But the other ideas are worth trying out.

Sure...that works if you're literate.

I'm still a crappy level 1 Barbarian...lucky I have a few ranks knowledge [excel] and I'll try the Nyrond website.

The back of the table tent is a GREAT place for those situational or one-use items.

Or things like REMEMBER TO DODGE!!!, a note that I find rather useful.

Yeah, my Monk has a smite usable once a day - if I don't use it in the first opportunity, I forget about it(+3 to hit, +2 damage on one non-grapple attack...) - everyone seems to like that I've actually labeled it 'notes to self'

I use an excel-based character sheet. I keep track of my mechanical favors (eg, +2 to CHA-based skills with non-nobles in Keoland) by making color-coded notes in the notes section of my character sheet. Then I hilite the affected skills with the same color (so in my example, I would hilite the note in blue and hilite all the CHA-based skills in blue), this way I know ,at a glance, to look for the skill modifier note (or in some cases notes).

I will implement the favors notes on the back of my table-tent. It would sure save a lot of time, compared to "I know I have a one-time +10 to any save here for when your fighter gets hit with Phantasmal Killer. Let me hunt through my ARs." Now I just need to only play in venues where there is room for a table tent :-)
