Ok, I am a 5th level character in Nyrond, Human(Suel) and I will level up at OrcCon, I know what level/skills to take, but I have no idea what feat to take, I already meet the feat requiremtents for one of my PRCs that require it, and I dont see anything that would be super useful, except maybe leadership, but from what I hear/seen it doesnt get used oftend mainly because most tables I go to are full with me in them, so what should I take? I am currently a Rogue2/Ranger 3 with Str14, Dex17, Con10, Int14, Wis/Cha 10, I am an odd build that dual wields a sickle and a sword to trip/strike while they are down, I also took improved Initiative as my 1st feat followed by expertise/improved trip and my next level will be the underused Horizon walker and I will later be a nightsong enforcer(got access from 2 mods!) So after reading this very long paragraph, what do yall think?

I think you will be needing hps very badly. As mainly a d8 class character (and you're slightly below that) a 10 con puts you at average wizard hps.

This is going to hurt you.. alot. Improved toughness is going to be vital for you to have to stay afloat. Then you'll become atleast an average rogue for hps, not great and you will always need to look for the next con amulet. But between that and fighting defensively/expertiese you may work out.

Best of luck to you,

You really think I need HP? I mean my 25 Hp is not alot, but to be honest, if Im getting hit by things, somethings wrong, either I am not doing my job or the fighter isnt doing his, though sometimes I end up being him(I see that fact as a bad sign of the session) I mean I was planning on aquiring an amulet for either health or wisdom, because of my paltry will save as well(Plus I am almost always the scout), But I apreciate the advice, I wanna hear what others think. Like is leadership worth it? I got access to that Dakon wizard for a cohort, so I was thinking that would be cool, but like I said earlier, not much chance to use the cohort..

I agree with James, you need hit points.

As a 5th level character with only 25 hps I'm surprised you haven't died yet. There are any number of things that could do 25 points of damage without even thinking about it, and not all of them damaging you would mean that someone isn't doing their job. An archer/rogue with a +1 shock longbow that catches you in a surprise round could drop you unconscious with some good rolls. That is just one example. Besides, every now and then the enemies get lucky and roll crits; the previous archer rolling a crit could outright kill you.

Any other feat you get won't matter if you aren't conscious to use it. ;)

Absolutely right on the hit points. During an APL 6 module last year (it was a core special), we were hit by an empowered sudden maximized fireball (45 points). An Ice Storm spell is appropriate for APL 6 and a good die roll could drop you to negatives with no saving throw.

So you have +5 to hit and 25 hp. Both are a problem but as you said your playstyle keeps the 25hp from being a problem. With only +5 to hit you are probably missing alot-and missing more when you two weapon fight. I play with a swashbuckler/rogue and his potential damage is great when the enemy is critable 1d6+2d6+3+1+strenght three times per round but he misses so much is average damage on a full attack is the same as mine on a single attack. You're addition of tripping and combat expertise aleviate that but I still think the feat you need if weapon finess. Put your lvl 8 stat bumb into dex and buy gloves of dex right after amulet of con. Get a ring of protection and other cheap AC upgrades and combined with combat reflexes you should be able to AC tank until high levels.

Well, assuming you're planning to boost your Dex in the future, I'd look immediately at Weapon Finesse. It might be worth picking up a level of Swashbuckler 1st - that gets you that feat, reasonably good hp and gives you another feat of your choice at 6th.

Are you wielding a short sword or rapier and sickle? Assuming you pick up Gloves of Dexterity +2 and get a boost of +1 to Dex at 8th level, that will represent a +3 to hit at 8th level...

So what I am hearing is that I really need either HP so I can survive or Weapon Finesse so I can hit...hmmm...not quite the responses I expected but its good advice, I will think on it though, but the reason I have avoided weapon finesse was that I mainly used strength for attacking, whenever the caster asks me what buff I need, I just say B Strength and I go in and swing, plus usually I go first and catch the opponents flatfooted so that fact helps alot(cept against tin can fighters/clerics) and I also charge and flank as much as possible(tumbling when nessary of course) but I will think on these things.. oh and I typically use a longsword/sickle combo but I was thinking of switching to dual sickles for more tripping, but it would lower my damage abit, so Im not sure..

You might also want to consider improved disarm. A trip followed up by a disarm is a pretty nasty combo for horking over the bad guys.

I thank everyone for the help so far, but I think that Paige's idea of a trip/disarm combo is great, I mean I dont specialize in soaking damage and I do a fair amount of damage, but not awesome, but I disable baddies and damage them which sets them up to be cleaved in two by the fighters. I mean, halfling rogues and gnome wizards are ripe for the picking when they're prone and disarmed. And if they get up me and any ally with a brain that comes in to threaten, will get the awesome AOO with a +4 bonus. I mean I still know that I am low HP wise, but I almost always use good tactics like flank +combat expertise and fighting defensively. Plus I try to have allies to have good tactics too. As far as the spells go, fireball/area effect spell+my evasion/good reflex save, I often take nothing, assuming we havent readied actions to disrupt the spellcaster as every opportunity(Which we most always do, spellcasters dont last long around us) so I guess Paige wins the award for best idea and unless something comes up, I will most likely take Improved Disarm, but if anyone has any other ideas, feel free to post them, you may change my mind, but not likely.

Best of luck to you. Just realize that you are very very crunchy. You have less than an average wizard of your level has for hps. And you have chosen a role that puts you into melee.

So best of luck and becareful that monster hitrolls don't surprise you with how quickly they can skyrocket. With so few hps you won't have the room for error that it will cause.

Take care and good luck,

James

PS: If you are going to disarm, like sunder you will want a twohanded weapon for it (I recommend a ranseur).

It sounds like he consistently plays with the same people. That helps to cover for weak builds because people work together and look out for each other. He may be in for a rude awakening when he plays with other players or different judges (I had two PC deaths in a APL 2 module, which would have killed his PC outright. Both critical hits, a scorching ray and a scythe, for almost 40 points each).
