| Necrochaos12-24-06, 02:43 PM | So here is where I'm at now: Human Scout4/Rog3/Shadowdancer1/Dread Commando5/Nightsong Enforcer2 Str 14, Dex 19, Con 14, Int 12, Wis 10, Cha 8 1-Scout; Dodge, Mobility 2-Scout 3-Rogue; Improved Init 4-Rogue; Bump to Dex 5-Rogue I was heading towards Dread Commando. I just go access to any limited feat or prestiage class. This will unlock Dread Commando for me in a few levels. But, before I do this, is there another limited feat or PrC that I should be on the lookout for or that would fit into my build? |
| Redfist12-24-06, 05:04 PM | *Any* limited feat or PrC? Sheesh - I need to play in your region. lol |
| jstorrie12-24-06, 05:06 PM | Dread Commando is pretty meh. Reread Sudden Strike - you can't activate it just by flanking. If you're going for a spring-attacking skirmisher, stick with Scout. If you're going for a sneak-attacker, stick with classes that progress your sneak attack. There isn't a lot of synergy in your build. |
| Necrochaos12-24-06, 06:09 PM | The mod I received it in is not in my region. It was a 2 round grinder that was the end of a long series. My character does plan to be a spring attacker. That is why I thought sudden strike would be quite useful. The original progression was this: Human Scout4/Rog3/Shadowdancer1/Dread Commando5/Nightsong Enforcer2 Str 14, Dex 16, Con 14, Int 12, Wis 10, Cha 8 1-Scout; Dodge, Mobility 2-Scout 3-Rogue; Improved Init 4-Rogue; Bump to Dex 5-Rogue 6-Scout; Combat Reflexes 7-Scout; Spring Attack 8-Shadowdancer 9-Dread Commando; Staggering Strike 10-Dread Commando 11-Dread Commando 12-Dread Commando; Power Attack 13-Dread Commando 14-Nightsong Enforcer 15-Nightsong Enforcer Dread commando will give me full BAB. I'll be moving to get one attack every round but make it count. |
| Mommy was an Orc12-24-06, 06:26 PM | That AR sounds like it is in desperate need of an errata... |
| Britt12-24-06, 06:29 PM | I just go access to any limited feat or prestiage class. I need to know what adventure this is. Please contact me offlist. |
| Redfist12-24-06, 06:35 PM | The mod I received it in is not in my region. It was a 2 round grinder that was the end of a long series. Do you know what we got for the end of a 5 YEAR story arc? Boots of speed. I guess I should aim for mere series conclusions in other regions than 5 year arcs in my own. ;) |
| Necrochaos12-24-06, 06:44 PM | So anyway, Sudden Strike. How do I catch someone flat footed other than blink or the first round of combat? I didn't factor that into the build. |
| Necrochaos12-24-06, 06:56 PM | One the other hand, what if I took a level of cleric and then went into Skull Clan Hunter? I could then sneak attack undead and wouldn't be as useless in those Crypt Crawls and other nasty undead stuff. Does this seem like a better route than Dread Commando? This would also give me the ability to use wands of CLW and Lessor Vigor. I wouldn't be able to cast 1st level spells. It also advances some of my sneak attack dice. I'd be CG worshiping Oldimarra. Domains Celerity (+10 move) and Luck to reroll. I think this seems to be a good route. Any other suggestions? |
| budleiser12-25-06, 12:51 PM | The first character I tried in LG was a tumble rogue. Having played for a bit, youll realize its super important to decrease the number of monster types that nerf your sneak. So being able to sneak attack undead is huge, and if you get access look for ghost strike weapon. Are you sure you don't want a feat called "something better than improved init" its in all the books you should look it up ;) Max out your hide and move silently. Wherever you go tell the DM your hiding and moving silently and roll it! Carry alchemical weapons (sneak attack with touch weapons so good!) Tangle foot bags will NOT give you sneak attack. Flanking or attacking someone in a grapple will. So buy 2 riding dogs just for more flanking partners. Finds ways to be invisible (potions, wizards etc) But always remember, wear sunscreen. |
| Arvagor12-25-06, 01:00 PM | So buy 2 riding dogs just for more flanking partners. This one is not so worth it, IMO. Unless you also take levels in druid or ranger, commanding an animal takes a move action, and you'd want ranks in Handle Animal to give you any decent chance of success -- to command two dogs takes up one entire round for you (2 move actions), leaving you with only a 5 foot step as a remaining action. And unless they are druid/ranger animal companions, such animals will never advance -- meaning you'd be buying two at the end of each mod, to replace the ones that inevitably get killed each mod. ;) |

Now they follow you and defend you from apparent threats, tumble past the bad guy ready to attack with flanking. Who worries about the dogs dieing? Put some barding on it stacked with natural armor and dex the dog might have a better AC then the rogue/scout. Every attack on the dog is an attack not on the rogue! Thats not a downside thats a bonus. If the dog lives and you decide you don't like it as a flanking buddy sell it for half back. If it dies you still get to sell the barding for half price, and it saved you 13+ hit points. At low levels the Dogs +3 D6+3 attack is better than support characters. But throw in the free trip and the dog is better than most level 1's. Later on it becomes moot but by then it will have paid for itself, and once and awhile it will STILL successfully trip the opponent. +2 from flanking with the dog, -4 ac for being prone. 150gp for a walking tripping +2 to +6 bonus on your sneak attacks. Later on you do need to be careful of fighters, barbarians, giants; as your dogs will be nothing more than juicy cleave targets. But handle that when it comes up. |
