| Sasayaki04-23-05, 11:21 PM | Hey guys, first post. :) I have four questions regarding feats. Firstly, if you gain a feat via a class (for instance, two levels of beastmaster gives Alertness) then gain it again via another class (one level of Halfling Outrider), do you gain the feat twice? Or can you simply pick another feat which is characterful for your character (precise shot or the like)? Secondly, the feat Diving Charge is core in LG. It allows one doing an arial charge to decend 10 feet and travel 30 feet to add some d6 to their damage rolls. Does this count if you have a flying mount? IE can I take this as a character and have it apply to my damage rolls? Thirdly, the wording of that feat is 'adds to damage rolls', just as weapon specialization 'adds to damage rolls'. Does this mean that that damage is doubled on a charge? Lastly, as my animal companion mount gains hit die, they gain feats- can I also take that feat on my mount, so that it can do an attack when it charges with me, gaining the extra damage too? Cheers, fellahs! Edit: Opps. Halfling Outrider is from the Complete Warrior, Beastmaster is from the Complete Adventurer, Diving Charge is from Races of the Wild. |

Since those two do not, my guess would just be that you just lose out the second time. Because the diving charge feat is based on flying speed, I would say that your flying animal companion mount could easily take it, but that your character probably could not. I also don't see any reason why that damage would be doubled. Those are just my interpretations, though. Hopefully Tim or some other official-type person can answer for sure. |

The answer to your first question is usually no. Unless it's a feat that can be obtained multiple times (such as Toughness), or specifically says that if you have the feat in question you may choose another (see the marshal base class in the Miniatures Handbook for an example of this), you don't derive any benefit from it. Question #2. Only the character possessing the feat gains the benefits of the feat, unless otherwise specified. In the case of Diving Charge, if the mount had the feat, then it would be able to use it. Diving Charge has no prerequisites, so it may be taken by any character; however, only characters that regularly fly (such as those that employ wild shape or flight spells) will derive much benefit out of it. Diving Charge adds bonus dice to damage rolls, which is never multiplied on a critical hit (just like sneak attack or energy damage from a flaming/frost/shock weapon). If your mount advances to the point where it can take feats, you may choose to give it Diving Charge. I hope this helps. Chris Tulach |

It's extra damage dice (as Mr. Tulach mentioned) that do not multiply... |
