12-26-06, 12:12 PM What's the most or least fun time you've ever had with a hireling at the table?

We hired a mercenary from the Red Planks in the BK.

Hiring Wizard (HW): Sergei, you will open that door.

Sergei: I will not open that door.

HW: Sergei, I'm paying you good money to open that door!

Sergei: I will open that door.

---------------------------------

Later;

HW: Sergei, you will search for traps.

Sergei: I will not look for traps.

HW: Sergei, I'm paying you to look for traps!

Sergei: I will look for traps.

---------------------------------

This went on all mod and was really funny. Especially since one player was playing both parts.

12-26-06, 02:51 PM I don't think weve ever hired someone unless it was specifically offered in the mod. (A tour guide who knew the area)

12-26-06, 05:01 PM We used a hireling to good effect in an active Core mod. We fought a duel, but the DM had an NPC participate who shouldn't have participated. Our party went back to the nearest major city and hired a half-elf barrister to come back and argue our case with the NPC so that we could try the duel again (after getting our butts kicked the first time).

Joe, the half-elf... Great guy. As soon as he argued his case, he was running down the stairs away from the inevitable combat...
