I have some friends of mine that are moving to Detroit Michigan in the near future and am trying to get them into LG. I have done several searches in the yahoo groups for a Furyondy or Michigan LG group but have yet to come up with any. Does anyone know of any good groups for me to send to them.

Thanks!

There's an lg_annarbor group, and PandemoniumGames, which is based in Garden City, but I've arranged games in Royal Oak with people in both groups, so it's definitely a Detroit Metro sort of thing.

There's actually a pandemonium con coming up, http://www.warhorn.net/pandemoniumoasis/, that will include people from Ket, and the Pandemonium cons usually have triad attendance...

John DuBois, who's active on this forum should be along shortly, and he's newly triad and a great guy, so hopefully he can help you out as well..

Pandemonium Oasis is a great place to get introduced to the region in all its glory. All three Triads are there, and we've made it a point to enslave - er, recruit - our best judges to run all the Year 7 Furyondy adventures.

The official discussion group for the region can be found at http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/furyondy-discussion/

When I first started out in LG in the Ann Arbor area, I found this group to be very helpful: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/lg_annarbor/

Our regional website: http://www.furyondy.com

Sadly, starting tomorrow, I will be out of town for a couple weeks, but generally speaking, people can PM me on these boards or e-mail me at plots@furyondy.com and I can answer general questions. Chris Hoffman, our Point of Contact, can be reached at poc@furyondy.com.

I'm not John du Bois but I can fake it for brief periods of time.

The main discussion group for Furyondy (i.e., Michigan LG) is here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/furyondy-discussion

It's a good place to post questions and generally get involved. I estimately we have about 70 active players in the region and 70 more infrequent players. Most of them live in or near southeast Michigan.

The main web page is here:
http://www.furyondy.com/

You can get a gist of what our region is like from there. Think renaissance France/England and you'll have a pretty good idea. Lots of lawful good vs. chaotic evil type goody-two-shoes stuff. Lots of paladins, clerics, grizzled warriors fighting undead, demons and orcs. There's also a fair amount of political intrique and a mild general distrust of arcane spellcasters.

I maintain the events page on that website which is currently down while they switch to PHP but if it were up you could get a pretty good idea of what cons are in the area. The short version is that there are several significant cons in or near Detroit:
January - Garden City (Detroit suburb)
February - Toledo, OH (1+ hour drive)
March - Kalamazoo (2.5 hour drive)
May - Garden City (Detroit suburb)
September - Garden City (Detroit suburb)
November - Ann Arbor (< 1 hour drive)
December - Garden City (Detroit suburb)

Southeast Michigan is blessed with being in or within easy driving distance of four regions (Furyondy, Veluna, Verbobonc and sort of Ket) and two meta-regions (Iuz and VTF). We're also less than a 5 hour drive from both Origins and GenCon. Unless you devote your life to LG, you can't really run out of mods to play.

I've met you several times...Your memory is just bad from your heavy drinking and that bad case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy

Sick burn. A Midnight Madness comes to mind, John.

Your friends are fortunate enough that they live next to a Judge-frenzied individual who often runs nearby Detroit gamers plenty of games to play. I really don't judge groups unless I know at least one of the people since I run these games at my house. However, if your friends are attending Pandemonium Oasis; ask for Rick Rutherford. If they meet me on good terms, I offer cheap gaming for unlimited amounts of hours.

We also have a local game day on the second Saturday of every month held in Ypsilanti (nearby Detroit) run by Brian Gray and somewhat-managed by myself. The sign-up page is located...here! http://www.warhorn.net/annarbor

And then there are the kids in Kalamazoo who will always welcome you with open arms and run modules for you. We've a little over 2 hours from Detroit and play on a semi regular basis. We have 6-10 players in the area, but can always use another to fill out the table.

This is our group: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/K-ZooGames/

We also have players in Allegan, Hastings and Battle Creek.

I've been traveling to the Detroit Rock City a lot lately to get ready for LG Cons.

We hope to see you there!

As a related topic, are there any groups in Grand Rapids? I'm going to be there for the summer, and can make it to Kalamazoo pretty easily (I've already signed up for that group), but obviously Grand Rapids is more convenient.

There is a handful of folks in Grand Rapids who want to play but I don't think they've been able to get a regular group off the ground. :(

Also, if you sweet talked or bribed us, I'm sure we could get a group to travel to GR for a game or two every now and again.

That's one of the things you should do if you're trying to get a group off the ground - keep making contacts at conventions, posting on groups, etc...it is a lot of work to be the organizer initially, but once you get it going, it is a bit easier.

I think I'm probably ready to muster a small convention on that basis :)

The great thing about LG is that you don't actually have to have the same people at the table each week - you just need them to have characters of similar levels.
