| King Kashue05-20-07, 12:37 AM | If you just keep reading from the section you quoted, you'll see your answer :P Creating a weapon from starmetal costs 5,000 gp more than creating a similar weapon of steel. Creating armor from starmetal has the same costs as armor created from adamantine (CAr p.141) |
| Wraith23505-20-07, 04:39 AM | also look for the "Green star adept prestige class" |
| Shieldhart9105-21-07, 12:40 AM | Like I said in the editing reasons, I looked down a wee bit further. Doesn't make any sense to me for the price ratios- but I'm grateful for not paying a higher price for Green Starmetal Full-Plate; not that I'll be buying it or anything. |
| King Kashue05-21-07, 12:44 AM | Like I said in the editing reasons, I looked down a wee bit further. Doesn't make any sense to me for the price ratios- but I'm grateful for not paying a higher price for Green Starmetal Full-Plate; not that I'll be buying it or anything. Why doesn't it make sense? The weapon has an extra ability, so it costs more. The armor has no extra ability, so it doesn't cost more. |
| Shieldhart9105-21-07, 12:46 AM | But in the terms of crafting something, it doesn't make sense to me. You're using the save equivalent of metal on Full-Plate and a Greatsword; so why aren't the costs proportional with a +5,000 GP? Or why doesn't Green Starmetal Armor cost 2,000 more excess GP? Whether or not it has a special ability or not is irrelevent to me. I'm just saying that you should be able to bash an evil outsider on the head with Starmetal Full-Plate and get the same 1d6 damage for it. |
| _metz_05-21-07, 01:04 AM | Maybe if you had posted that question originally -to the Rules section, not three dots we WOULD HAVE KNOWN WHAT YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT. Sorry but if you post a stupid post, then claim you meant something else, don't expect any different response from me. Starmetal Full plate has the same properties as Adamantine. SO no, no extra damage. It only explicitly says that when it is used to make a weapon. Read the whole section before posting, an dthen actually ask a question instead of writing "..." - Pet peeve of mine |
| Shieldhart9105-21-07, 01:09 AM | I'm sorry Metz, but please don't insult me. I've done some wrong on the boards, but I've apologized for it. I mean really- I made a mistake. It's not like making a blunder post really hurts anyone, least of all you. If you don't like the topic, then don't respond to it. Ignore it. I'm simply arguing the cost of Greenstarmetal vs. Adamantine. The whole message wasn't serious you know: do you really expect me to use Full Plate as a weapon? Relax, sir. More importantly, don't worry about it if you aren't going to provide useful feedback. |
| _metz_05-21-07, 01:53 AM | Not insulting you, just saying please make your requests or what you have issues with clearer. That is what annoys me. Many people simply write posts - and others check them, only to see that there is no actual question or anything. In future please edit your post to something like: "sorry post edited cos I worked out what it was I was after" Otherwise people will check on your post and get irritated if its not clear what you want. - we don't know what topics are worth reading or not, so we usually at least read through most. I am sorry if I came off too harshly, but I do expect that if someone posts something on these forums, then they should be clear what they want in their response. Simply writing "Green Starmetal, wait...what?" isn't helpful when your post consists of three dots. Thats all really. |
| _metz_05-21-07, 01:55 AM | Once again, I apologise for coming off too strongly. |
| clannagh05-21-07, 02:20 AM | Why doesn't it make sense? The weapon has an extra ability, so it costs more. The armor has no extra ability, so it doesn't cost more. Actually full plate comes with gauntlets so presumably you are picking up a bonus a set of bane outsider gauntlets for the cost of normal adamantine full plate .. a bargain really |
| King Kashue05-21-07, 02:40 AM | Actually full plate comes with gauntlets so presumably you are picking up a bonus a set of bane outsider gauntlets for the cost of normal adamantine full plate .. a bargain really They would do an extra 1d6, with no bonus to hit, so not exactly "bane", which is a heck of a lot better. One thing to note though, normal gauntlets are considered unarmed attacks. So unless you've got improved unarmed, you're going to provoke AoOs every time you try to punch some Herzou with your gauntlets. Not the best trade off for 3.5 points of damage (especially considering you're likely giving up more than that by not attacking with your weapon) ;) |
| gomeztoo05-21-07, 08:28 AM | Spiked armor = spiked gauntlets = not unarmed? |
| KShaver05-21-07, 10:29 AM | Spiked armor = spiked gauntlets = not unarmed? Actually no. Spiked armor and spiked gauntlets are both purchased as weapons, and are completely seperate from one another (i.e. you would have to purchase both to get both). Even ruling that regular gauntlets on a suit of armor made from such have that property is iffy, but if you are desperate enough to be using them most GMs would probably give it to you. |
