I have a player who LOVES to play clerics. Can't get enough of them. But for LG he made his first rogue. Loves it, and roleplays well and everything. BUT he has a problem. He has played clerics so long he has to fight the urge to keep his character out of the religion scene. He knows its not his character but he just can't help asking the druid about the old faith or jumping in on discussions of theology with the paladin. Its just an old habit of playing a cleric that keeps showing up. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them? Know somebody? Got any advice I can give him to resist the urge to take a level of cleric when he knows it is NOT his character?

1. If his rogue has taken ranks in Knowledge (religion), then it would not be out of character.

2. If his rogue has NOT taken ranks in Knowledge (religion), then everytime he tries to make an esoteric point, ask him to make a Knowledge (religion) check at DC: 15. Oops, he can't make it. (Although, I might let him make it, but only for the god/dess that the rogue is currently worshipping.)

Over here in sunny Canberra we call that 'channeling'. IE, when you do something quite out of character for one character, but would fit another perfectly. It happens. :)

thats the thing, this isn't a case of me being annoyed. This is what he says is happening. His character doesn't worship a deity and has no ranks in knowledge religion. he just can't help it.
