Last year, my wizard organized a group of adventurers who delved beneath the ruins of Amundfort, the former capital of the Shield Lands, to find and defeat a wererat informant who had escaped the high-level table at the previous interactive. The wererat and his minions were trying to manipulate a strange vortex of dead magic and wild magic to cause it to grow or explode and consume the city (and, theoretically, the whole of Walworth Isle). We ended up rushing his plans, and he jumped into the vortex to activate it, causing it to start to warp and consume everything nearby. The other adventurers all ran for the exit at top speed, but my wizard, having learned that the wererats had stolen several rare tomes of magical scholarship by former Shield Mages, ran in the other direction to search the complex for the books -- finding them just in the nick of time before the vortex grew larger and spat him out on the other side of the Oerth. What's your story? |
| copper_wyrmling09-21-07, 05:05 PM | I've played in two specials. Unfortunately I can't talk about the first as I think it's still legal in Perrenland (for those wanting access to Seeker of the Song, with special RP opportunities for followers of Joramy - my cleric of Joramy was playing it for the second reason). In the second, my sorcerer travelled to Faerie to rescue some elven children who'd been enticed away by the fey. She travelled through caverns of permanent Wild Magic (to her delight, and the horror of every other caster in the party), visited a fey marketplace, and attended the birthday celebrations of a fairy dragon. She had fun :) |

There's definately advantages to writing a module that is tailored to the PC's playing it. (having three of four characters being Pholtans and attempting to fool and trap an Efreet requires a lot of lateral thinking on both sides of the table) |

| dkay80709-25-07, 08:29 PM | I have played in three special missions, all of which were the top three most fun experiences I have had in Living Greyhawk. First special mission, my dwarven defender Lord Olaf Tharand and his companions went after a lich who had been sending armies of undead into Tusmit (it was our mission to become Legendary Heroes of Tusmit). We were APL 10 though we did have a level 15 cleric playing with us. After a near-death combat with an Iron Golem while trapped inside of an antimagic field in a room (aid to assist saved us). We fought a fully-prepared level 17 Lich wizard who tore us to shreds. Our monk was turned to stone, our arcane trickster was killed with a finger of death, our archer was disintegrated, our spiked chain fighter swalled one too many fireballs, our cleric was turned into a rat, and my dwarven defender finished off the ghost-formed #@$%!@^ with 10 HP to spare. I rolled a 1 on my fort save destroying his trapped phylactery and was turned into a butterfly. Don't ask me how we got out. Apparently the phylactery we destroyed was a decoy - the original in the possession of the lich's master, an arch-devil on one of the planes of hell. We all received a mean curse. Second special mission was a contuation of the first. Lord Olaf received an invitation to "parley" with the master regarding the fate of Tusmit and so brought three different companions to this mission. We encountered the lich once again (along with his servants), who despite his master's wishes tried to prevent us from meeting with him. We dispatched them fairly easily after losing our cleric to some extremely nasty spell combinations (disjunction was allowed in LG at the time). We then walked through a portal where we were invited to dine with the arch-devil and his pit fiend servants. After a few hours of role-playing, we reached an agreement: Lord Olaf would be given the lich's phylactery to destroy once and for all (removing the curse) and Tusmit would not be harmed by the arch-devil or those who serve him. In return, Lord Olaf had to permit this arch-devil to inhabit him and see, feel, and hear all that Lord Olaf saw, felt and heard for the period of one year. Lord Olaf begrudgingly agreed and began his voluntary exile (retirement). The other special mission, entirely unrelated, tasked the Concillators, Keoland's most powerful adventuring company, to destroy one of the most infamous nobles in Keoland, a powerful vampire named Traago von Reiklande. After a number of intense combats, we were successful, freeing the spirits of the numerous adventurers that had tried before us and failed. Some PCs died while others chose to seek retirement joining the ranks of a redeemed Death Knight on the Plane of Shadow locked in an eternal battle with the forces of evil. It was very fun and a great deal of beer was consumed that night by us all. |
| gomeztoo09-26-07, 02:43 PM | I played in a mission in which the objective was to break into a temple and somehow humiliate the faithful. We had to think up how to achieve this ourselves. Let it suffice to say that we had fun, and the targets were... not amused. |
| haferka09-27-07, 02:24 AM | I took my certed half-fey child (Ayoneses)back to the fey lands to visit with his mother.. .. this required me to gather some friends (party) who all contributed finding a way to get there.. and protecting the baby along the way. Then when we got there.. we got to hang with some random fey.. before looking for Sesonya (my babies nymph moma). She had aparently been kidnaped/taken by a half-fey troll chieftain who wanted her as a mate. After distracting the troll patrols.. we rushed in to save the day.. The "troll" got away.. (wasn't exactly a troll.. not sure what but it had an illusion going). Sesonya was please to see the boy.. but my time away had been hard.. and she didn't like me so much anymore... (took up the DeathCultist metaorg, which makes me "stink of death")... ...I am currently trying to get as much xp as possible.. so I can get a final SM to "sacrifice" my child.. in a ritual to become a Blighter/Sacred Fist (Blighter is NPC only.. so I will be retired)... and I will try to work something in where I send my sons soul into another "forgotten" realm to be reincarnated. |
