Your first port of call should be the Living Greyhawk Gazetteer, which I hope is still in print (my gamestore does not have it any more, which is a pity). This gives you the Flanaess at a glance. Such is the pace of life on Oerth that portions of it are now a little outdated as far as the official campaign is concerned (Kimbertos Skotti of Keoland has been assassinated, there has been a coup and counter-coup in Nyrond, the Duchy of Tenh has been ravaged by an extra-planar strike-force, the former capital of Onnwal is now a smoking ruin...), but it is still indispensable. On the web, many of the Living Greyhawk Regional web-sites have fine sections on the history of their respective lands. Geoff, Keoland, and Onnwal are particularly good in this regard, but there are many more. If you are interested in the history of the Splintered Sun metaregion, you should take a look at Ivid the Undying (easily found via search engine). This was written for 2nd edition, but it is still the founding text for the detailed history of the former Great Kingdom and the historical material has not been superseded.
