I will soon be playing my first game of Living Greyhawk at Conception UK, and though I have bought the LGG I have not had a chance to flip through it (I am still reading the PHB).

I already have a character concept in mind and a way to implement it in terms of rules, but I don't have the knowledge of the Greyhawk world to fit him into the setting - that is where I need help.

Basically my idea is for a dwarven warrior who uses magic to enhance his battle prowess - mainly buffs and stuff that affect him only. The idea is of being a member of a loose group of "special" warriors gifted with magical talents. Think physical adepts from Shadowrun or the Warrior discipline from Earthdawn.

I am making the character a Sorcerer using spells such as Daze, Resistance, Protection from Evil and Mage Armour. He has the feat Eschew Materials so that he only has to perform gestures and incantations to trigger his spells. I imagine the gestures and incantations more like the Mauri Haka, and the static katas of the Eastern martial arts (i.e. more psyching me up to perform the "instrinsic" magic).

As I am in the UK my home region is Onnwal, however I imagine that my character could originally be from any area of the Flaness. So any suggestions on where this dwarf would hail from, and what society he sprung from? Are there any special groups of warriors I have described?

Ihope you can help!

There's a Yahoo! group dedicated to discussing such topics:

Might I point you here:

For additional help. There are Dwarves in the headlands of Onnwal, and some of the year 5&6 storylines deal with them...In general Onnwal is great for roleplaying, so you'll likely find helpful folks at those two boards (Tassek in particular has some folks very knowledgeable about the setting and with a love for character development)...
