In fact, I'd like to be constructive, and try to make it better. 1) The Realms lends itself to a regional system, so thank you for keeping that rolling. 2) Regional differences are only cool if you ever get a chance to see other regions. If I have to take a plane from Chicago to Sydney to play in another region, then for all intents and purposes, there is no Sydney region. I'll never get there, and it just doesn't matter what they are up to. 3) Therefore, PLEASE be really thoughful with regional assignments. They matter. They matter a lot. In Chicago, we were very fortunate with LG, because Wisconsin and Michigan and St. Louis were all other regions within a 1-5hr drive. That was a LOT of fun, and encouraged people to travel slightly to play more. That means more gaming, more cons, and more sales for WOTC. 4) On the other hand, in the Pre-Zief days, someone who lived on the north end of British Columbia had to drive for 8-12 hours to reach another region. That's rough in terms of time, and expensive to boot. It also discourages play, the exact opposite of what you want. 5) I'd like to suggest splitting some states and nations along province, township, or county lines, so that most LFR players can travel for say, 3 hrs, and get to another region. |

In fact, I'd like to be constructive, and try to make it better. 1) The Realms lends itself to a regional system, so thank you for keeping that rolling. It's just too bad so many of the regions are annoying and the rest are boring. 2) Regional differences are only cool if you ever get a chance to see other regions. If I have to take a plane from Chicago to Sydney to play in another region, then for all intents and purposes, there is no Sydney region. I'll never get there, and it just doesn't matter what they are up to. I liked the fact that we had "sister regions" across the (real) world. Yes, I never visited, but it was fun seeing their region in the Meta's. 3) Therefore, PLEASE be really thoughful with regional assignments. They matter. They matter a lot. In Chicago, we were very fortunate with LG, because Wisconsin and Michigan and St. Louis were all other regions within a 1-5hr drive. It also truly sucks living in Texas for this: if you're on one part of the state, you get one neighbor, if you're on the other, you get... one neighbor. Even people up in the panhandle or on the corner of Arkansas/Texas/Louisiana didn't get that many choices, because somebody decided Texas/Oklahoma and Louisiana/Arkansas should be the same regions. Don't do this again. 4) On the other hand, in the Pre-Zief days, someone who lived on the north end of British Columbia had to drive for 8-12 hours to reach another region. That's rough in terms of time, and expensive to boot. It also discourages play, the exact opposite of what you want. Similar to the issues earlier - areas with smaller states and corners made out like "bandits", areas like the BK got the shaft. 5) I'd like to suggest splitting some states and nations along province, township, or county lines, so that most LFR players can travel for say, 3 hrs, and get to another region. This is a good suggestion. Texas could easily be split into two regions. |
