How often do people play? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Just wondering how often people get to play an adventure. Right now it looks like the majority of adventures will be on a bi-weekly basis, which when you map out how long it is between levels means it's going to take years to get the character up to level 16. I know that going to cons will help speed things up in little bursts of play but the pace is glacial as far as I'm concerned.

That's what you can play in one year at a home game without travelling. But if you go to conventions, you can participate at Interactives. If you travel to another region, you can play the regionals and metaregionals there. And, starting again this year, you can play a few adaptables (ADP6-01 through ADP6-04), but I suspect it will be a month or four until they're all released for LG play.

How often you DO play really depends on how much time you have to devote to LG and how often you can get your buddies together or how many conventions you can attend. You can play cores on-line or by telephone, too.

Personally, I attend conventions, I play cores on-line and I travel out of state a few times per year, so I play about 60 games per year.

Since i am from a non-region country, i can only play/dm CORE adventures for LG. Soo, i am DMing one or two LG modules per month and playing something like 1 per three months. It totally sucks, but i had the DM curse. :P

Of course, you also have to take TU expenditure into account.

Not every sequence of Modules allows a character enough TUs to play them all.

Bah, you kids who grew up on 3E are spoiled! ;)

Back in the old days, it took forever to advance your PC once you got above 5th level or so. 16th level took millions of XP.

And our PHBs were written on mastodon hide. And we liked it! :D

More critically, our PHBs wore as if they were bound in mastodon hide.
And we didn't just like it, we absolutely loved it!

Just imagine: a book that doesn't wear out after a year of heavy use.

Our group plays at least twice a month. We also travel out of state at least once a month to a shop that runs some modules for us.

We go to a con a month for the most part. More like 10 a year I suppose. We just got into last November, so we are trying to catch up.

We are lucky to live within an hour of Verbobnc and about 3 hours from Ket. It's a good area to be in and have a fairly active home community.

The best thing about LG is being able to get with a group to play the level you are looking at. Hurrah for conventions.

Hi

Only get about 3-4 games a year at our club, that only if I'm lucky. But Conception is another thing entirely! :D

We've another one-day convention in Gloucester, sometime in October. Will try to get to occasional event in London, but it's so expensive to get there. (Same goes for Oxford, even though it's a lot closer).

So far my main's done about 36 scenarios, starting in October 1994.
(2 Conceptions, 1 Excaliber, 1 Gencon).

Well, this thread made me curious about my play history, so I looked through my characters and compiled some stats:

14th Dmitri: 95 ARs, started 12/22/2001 (died twice)
14th Stella: 97 ARs, started 01/27/2002
8th Wolfrider: 39 ARs, started 09/28/2003 (died once)
2nd Ke-RONK: 3 ARs, started 11/22/2003
4th Alonzo the Cook: 13 ARs, started 08/07/2004
2nd Delphnius P. Spindlebottom, Esq.: 4 ARs, started 05/14/2005

251 ARs, 53 months, for an average of 4.7 ARs/month or 57/year.

Hmm. I play LG a lot.

Wow, predating the start of the campaign by 6 years. ;)

I assume you meant "October 2004".

I play at least once a month at the games days in my area. When I first started out, I was playing almost every weekend to catch up on some mods. It all seemed to work out. I do not travel too much to cons, probably only 2 times a year.

I should have mentioned that each region might have up to four intro mods, too. That's at least 41 mods you can play each year, not counting ADP, Interactives and your one Special Mission per year. So you can pretty much play a game every weekend, if you try hard, without ever leaving your home state.

Hi

All the mods in the world won't help you if there's not enough interest to get the regular LG games in. Instead, our large group of regulars are encouraged to create their own campaigns. (Have about 3-4 ongoing).

With a group of about 12-16 per week we only get about 6 games a year now - and they're over subscribed. So far I've GM'd more than I've had chance to play, (GM'd 2 or 3). Only chance I get to catch up is Conception.

There are other groups around in Oxford & London, but transport is an issue, (I live in Gloucester), and trains are too expensive for someone on Incapacity Benefit.

Thing I don't understand is the access people seem to have to the Lssr Metamagic Rods. I've only seen 1 or 2, though I have seen access to Wand Alter Self. (Though I was 'playing down' because of rest of party, and access was next APL up)! :(

Still, can't complain. Mithril Shirt +1, Light Fortification isn't too shabby. Saving up for Tan Bag of Tricks, before someone bans it..... ;)

127 ARs since March 2003, or 26 months. The average, though, doesn't account for the big gap between my first gaming session or two and those I started playing once I began attending conventions in November 2003.

DM of roughly 100 or so games, too.

I think ya missed a year. It's been 38 (well, now that it's June, 39) months since March 2003.

Hmm... I apparently did the same as someone earlier on this thread. I meant March 2004. My first AR was CY 593.
