| clannagh02-13-07, 05:22 PM | my cunning ploy deleted as it would not work :) but suggestions welcome :) |
| LachlarlanIII02-13-07, 05:34 PM | Sign up to judge every slot then not show up at the last minute? :P |
| bitznarf02-13-07, 05:37 PM | I don't think 'annoy' would be quite the right word for the situation. |
| rockondon02-13-07, 09:09 PM | for each module you play, steer clear of any and all plot hooks. Any time the GM attempts to put the PCs on the right path and actually finish the module, tell him to quit railroading the party into doing what HE wants. Break a bunch of rules with your character - impossible stats, closed feats, ridiculous equipment, whatever it takes to get the GM to look at your character sheets. When he questions you on it, tell him that the senior GM where you play audited your character to make sure its okay. Point at some random judge and say that he is the senior GM you are talking about. During each combat, complain about the encounter. No matter what feats or spells the enemy uses, declare that they're not allowed to use it. In fact if the enemy does anything, declare that they can't do it. Follow this up with the following questions: "Were these encounters playtested?" "Are you sure you're reading the right APL?" During every mod, get up and shout "WHO'S THE MORON WHO WROTE THIS MOD?" Grab the front page of the mod and read it aloud. Odds are pretty good the author should be around there somewhere. --Don |
| paigeoliver02-14-07, 02:38 AM | 1. Purchase 50 packs of donkeys for 400 GP and list them as a wand on your MIL. Begin every encounter by driving them into whatever building, door, bad guys, or other situation you encounter. 2. Refuse to play any characters under 10th level, no matter what the module is. 3. After every single module go up to the con organizer and ask if you can "get one of the GOOD GMs this time?", especially if the con organizer was your last GM. 4. Pretend to only be able to speak some language that you can't speak, such as french or spanish. 5. In regional modules manage to get yourself or the entire party far, far out of the region the module is set it. 6. Name your animal companion after the convention organizer and insult your animal companion constantly. 7. Use plush miniatures. 8. Pretend to be blind and bring in a jumpy excitable "seeing eye dog". ---------------- 1. We have run a herd of donkeys into the front door of the dungeon in a few different modules, usually to fairly funny results. 2. I have never done this, but man have I run into it a lot. 5. I have made it all the way to Verbobonc in a Bandit Kingdoms module once, and then managed to die in Verbobonc during a BK module!!! |
| cycloptic_squirrel02-14-07, 03:17 AM | 1. Bring a 8th level character who has 40 ARs, but they're all the same one. Express excitement about being able to play a new adventure. 1a. Sign up for multiple slots of the same module. 2. DM a module 4 APLs lower than the table is. Express disbelief over how powerful everyone's characters are. Follow with audit. 3. Bring a character with full ranks in perform: yodel, sock puppetry, and clog dancing. Insitst on demonstrating. 4. Refuse to talk to the DM. Interact through another player. 5. Slap on a .1 and the date onto the latest LGCS, as well as any obviously broken rule. When called on it, show them the ruling and claim a new edition was posted this morning. See how long you can get away with your wartroll polymorphing, wraithestriking, frenzied berzerker. 6. Just act really sad. If done correctly it can bring down a whole table. ------------------ Just don't be foolish enough to try any of these, it'd be the last con you'll ever attend. (Except for #6, which is just mean.) |
| Genghis Cohen02-14-07, 07:10 PM | 1) Insist on loudly playing very annoying music from anime as a soundtrack for your bard. 2) Interupt every table multiple times per slot asking if anyone has a certain book. 3) Order in food that smells like fried soiled underwear with extra curry. Take your time eating it. 4) Insist on lecturing every player about the rules. Proceed to then avoid roleplaying with your ridiculously ineffective character, all while showcasing your tactical incompetence. 5) Play characters using options from AD&D 2nd Edition. Be surprised that it isn't LG legal. |
| Mommy was an Orc02-14-07, 07:21 PM | I think at GenCon, a pair of people were playing LE Drow in the Core special. Apparently, they didn't realize that Living Greyhawk had rules. I wasn't at the table, but it wasn't immediately discovered. |
| Puggle Halfwine02-14-07, 08:00 PM | 1) Demand a refund for each and every game you play. 1.1) Especially if it's because "I didn't get the access I wanted!" 2) Print off a whole bunch of fake certs from a far away region. 3) Bring a character from another campaign (A warforged to the LG Core Special, for instance). Neglect to mention this until discovered or half way through the module. 3.1) This works especially well for four player tables. 4) Bring no dice, books or anything other than a character sheet. Constantly lose what you're lent. 5) Pretend to be some LG bigshot (Sam, Craig, Britt, etc). Best attempted in non-US regions such as Ratik, Perrenland, Naerie and the like. Double points if said bigshot is actually present and you convince the con that they're the faker. 6) Help new players set up illegal characters (half-drow, half warforged netrunner). |
| rockondon02-14-07, 08:42 PM | 1) for every item access and favor that is crossed out on your ARs, apply white-out to all of them. Make it obvious. Show this to the GMs and express your happiness in having access to all that cool stuff. 1.5) Do the same thing for gold and exp so you maxed out on every mod. 2) play a druid. 3) don't prepare anything for your druid. Cast summons all day long, as well as various buffs for those summoned animals, but tell them you have no idea what animals you can summon, what their stats are, or how to apply the buffs to them. Basically, make sure the combats last as long as possible. 4) Constantly interrupt the GM, and the players, every time they open their mouth by stating some meaningless action that your character does - fixing their hair, checking their money pouch, reminding everyone what side you carry your sword on, etc. |
| bhale18702-14-07, 10:15 PM | skip your daily dose of riddlin, and instead drink a 6 pack of Mount Dew before each slot |
| sibyl02-14-07, 11:03 PM | 1) Tell everyone else at the table that their characters suck, and you could have done a much better job of building them 2) Proceed to tell all the players at your table how to run their characters - what spells they should cast next, what weapons to use, which opponent to attack, etc. 3) Tell the GM that they're running the NPCs all wrong, and you could do a better job. Tell the GM the 'proper' tactics for the NPCs. 4) Insist that your uber cheesed out mutt build with 100% xp penalty is the *only* useful character type in LG, an no one appreciates your genius. |
| donm6187302-14-07, 11:06 PM | Take a chair from the convention's busiest room and move it next to the cash box at the registration desk. Tell everyone in line about your LG character. Extra points if the convention is mostly a Historical Miniatures con, and they deliberately keep the LG events far, far away from the rest of the convention. [I'm joking, ok. Any resemblance to Winter War is NOT intentional...] Additional points if instead of yourself, you have the person most ill or unwashed in the LG room sit at the chair telling character stories. [Seriously, no comparisons to WW34 here.] Special points if you or the designated storyteller find the Director of Sales and Catering for the site the convention is at and bring that person up to date with your character's latest exploits. [There -- no one did that at WW34. Whew!] |
| rockondon02-15-07, 12:39 AM | tell the party that you have really high diplomacy/gather information. Convince them all to assist you at a crucial point of the mod. I'm sure you know the punchline to this one. repeat everything the GM says as he says it. When he asks why do you keep doing that simply look at him and say....why do you keep doing that? |
| LGMoses02-15-07, 02:41 AM | call everyone a bunch of min/maxers who play the game like a video game. Tell them all of their characters stats are solely chosen for min/maixing and they have no idea how to be a super roleplayer like you. Proceed to tell the barbarian of the group that if he wasn't such a min/maxer his barbarian wouldn't use a greataxe cuz barbarians shouldn't use metal weapons cuz they're barbarians. Then get on him if he's wearing ne armor other than hide. Cuz ofcourse, barbarians cna't make leather, they have to make the more primitive hide. |
| jstorrie02-15-07, 01:07 PM | Foolish city-man. I found my masterwork weapons in the dead hands of your weakling civilized NPCs. |
| CrystalBlue02-15-07, 01:21 PM | Sleep through mustering, then complain that you didn't get a table. Demand someone else drop from a table to accept you. Offer to muster for a specific slot, then tell everyone that you'll be right back. Go to the bathroom and come back 30 minutes later. ^.^ Bring multiple copies of a single character, each with different stats and levels. If the DM asks for your character, show him one of the sheets. If he suspects cheating, tell him you're a bluff/disguise bard. |
| tvknight41502-15-07, 02:56 PM | Have snack time at your gaming table catered... ...by some outfit other than the hotel or convention center's caterers (just to **** off the location's catering manager at the con coordinator)... ...full buffet.... ...insisting that only those in proper black-tie dress may share in the meal, and that everyone else should leave the room... ...and don't forget dessert... ...and include after-meal entertainment... ...whose attire becomes less and less modest during the entertainment... ...and who use the dessert as part of their entertainment... ...and disavow any responsibility to clean-up afterwards... ...by hiring Merry Maids to come in and do it... ...and bill it all to the convention! |
| Arvagor02-15-07, 10:19 PM | ...insisting that only those in proper black-tie dress may share in the meal, and that everyone else should leave the room...Black-tie? Gamers?   The only "black-tie" gamers know anything about is this one: http://www.starstore.com/acatalog/Darth_Vader_Tie_Fighter-01.jpg |
| tvknight41502-16-07, 09:08 AM | Black-tie? Gamers? Well, considering some of the outfits I see show up at gaming conventions, what's wrong with a coat and tails? |
| rockondon02-16-07, 10:40 AM | best outfit I saw at a con was the following T-shirt: hoof hoof moo udder-smack |
| LachlarlanIII02-16-07, 11:30 AM | Well, considering some of the outfits I see show up at gaming conventions, what's wrong with a coat and tails? That reminds me of a Gallagher joke :) |
| kenobi6502-16-07, 11:41 AM | hoof hoof moo udder-smack You only get the udder-smack attack if both hoof attacks hit. :D |
| tvknight41502-16-07, 01:17 PM | That reminds me of a Gallagher joke :) Does it involve a +5 sledgehammer? If so, I'm all ears. |
| LachlarlanIII02-16-07, 02:44 PM | Does it involve a +5 sledgehammer? If so, I'm all ears. No, it involves a Coat of Muscleinity and a Belt of Immaculate Ties. |
| GreatSiron02-16-07, 03:03 PM | 1) Insist on loudly playing very annoying music from anime as a soundtrack for your bard. I am soo going to do this with the intro from Powerpuff Girls Z next convention. |
| Paul H02-16-07, 04:50 PM | Hi Seen enough LARPS with full tux at one regular con in UK. Back on topic.. .........or just gave a Tan Bag of Tricks, like my main char. Every time you enter dodgy room/crypt/obvious ambush, send in one of your free Summon Nature's Ally's, draw attacks of opportunity, get bad guys to declare positions, then the party just dumps on them. If your Bear/Lion/Tiger/Horse whatever survives 1st rnd, they even get to attack back, grant flanking for your rogue, etc. Even use the critters to find traps, etc. (But never with Druid around)! Nothing like having a big free creature upset all the GM's carefully planned combats in round one! Cheers Paul H PS Sorry to all the GM's who had to put up with my:ahem: 'Bag' at the recent con. PPS (Not really)! |
| Crazy Boro02-16-07, 05:01 PM | I am soo going to do this with the intro from Powerpuff Girls Z next convention. Don't know if it'd be annoying, but I've wanted to make and have played at a table a parody called "If Vecna Was One of Us". |
| RedKnightofKet02-17-07, 12:04 AM | I have heard about a table, not sure if it was Ket Con or one of the big ones, but there were five staunch Ketites and an elf with a bag of tricks. None of them being rogues, they used the elf's Bag of Tricks to trigger the obvious looking traps. Then, when he pulled out his bag to set off an obvious trap, he pulled out a horse. They forced him to put it back in the bag, and draw something else. :D This actually ties in with another thing I have fun doing when travelling to an out of region con... I will refer to spells such as "Rary's Floating Disk", etc, and correct anyone who calls Rary the "Traitor". My explanation of Ket's hatred for elves had a 10 year old at Origins tell me he hated me (not sure if he meant the character, or the player....) :P |
| Samwise02-19-07, 01:14 PM | 5) Pretend to be some LG bigshot (Sam, Craig, Britt, etc). Best attempted in non-US regions such as Ratik, Perrenland, Naerie and the like. Double points if said bigshot is actually present and you convince the con that they're the faker. Except I'm not an LG bigshot. I'm not even sure I qualify as a smallshot. And besides, if someone hates an adventure I reviewed, you will be doomed, never mind if people with high level characters who have played my adventure start to frenzy. OTOH, apparently you can score some hefty humor points by "pretending" you don't know who I am, as several people learned at the first muster for the core special at DDXP. |
| ithardin02-20-07, 04:31 PM | In a variation of the previous, instead of pretending to be a "bigshot," or small shot or shot of varying size... If/when you get to a frustrating part of a module, ask who the author of the modules is and when told say: a). Hey! I know (insert author's name), and never in a million years would he have written this adventure the way you are judging it! b). Oh yeah! I remember when (insert author's name) asked me about this situation when he was play-testing this module. Ian |
| _metz_02-20-07, 05:14 PM | Talk in a really high pitched and annoying gnome accent. Talk in any really annoying accent. (looking at Alvin the Leprechaun, and Armi the French tart) Eat something really loud at the table like corn chips. Knock over the minitatures with your dice EVERY time you can. Over analyse every situation Ignore the obvious plothooks. Quote Order of the Stick - which everyone has read, as if its something that you yourself found and noone else has. Play a Gnome. Worse still turn up with 4 gnome paladins for an investigative morally dubious mod... Throw Alchemists fire into every room you walk into. Deliberately play the one guy who thinks he is cool and support the evil person without actually having any good reason other than "I am CN and I am bored" (Rary, the Pale, whoever the Party doesn't support, just to be an ass.) |
| Puggle Halfwine02-20-07, 06:46 PM | Talk in any really annoying accent. (looking at Alvin the Leprechaun, and Armi the French tart) I disagree! My "1917 Cockney english dock worker" accent for Vinnie is only *moderately* annoying and I've found some which are actually funny (not my own tho'). |
| Grovar02-20-07, 07:50 PM | Talk in a really high pitched and annoying gnome accent. Play a Gnome. Worse still turn up with 4 gnome paladins for an investigative morally dubious mod... Play a Nackle, and run around the whole of the convention while role-playing your character (especially outside of an event). Bonus points if you run around with other Nackle players (the more people, the more annoying). :P This post might get me enmity of the Nackle clan, but I wanted to warn the rest of the LG world of the Nackles. |
| GreatSiron02-21-07, 01:16 AM | You won't even see me in the same room with a Nackle, much less at the same table. Very annoying. (Maybe I shouldn't have said that, as a member of my Triad plays one, oh well.) |
| rockondon02-21-07, 02:59 AM | I have no idea what a Nackle is. Not sure that I want to know either ;) Do disruptive things that annoy the PCs, go against their plans, and interfere with every attempt at completing the module. Loudly proclaim that every obnoxious thing you do is purely in the interest of roleplaying. "Its what my character would do" will be your defense every time you anger somebody. Tell any player who plays his PC agreeably with the rest of the party that he is a bad roleplayer. |
| ithardin02-21-07, 12:36 PM | The Nackles are a family of Gnomes notorious in IL-MO-the world for their "capricious" nature. |
| cheeky_ktty02-21-07, 09:23 PM | Add a D.M with short patience and my brother with one of his random, generics, takes a billion hrs to explain builds, that will never work in this life time or the next  |
| LGMoses02-21-07, 10:40 PM | do everything you can to cause a TPK. If you go in a dungeon, run through the depths making racket. Steal all of the torches and lites out of peples stuff. Replace wizards spell components with pine cones. If a mod puts you on a boat, always remember to throw alchemist's fire at your enemies. o, and if you get board. start up a convo with the guy next to you concerning builds and begin to show him your cheeziest builds and point out feats, prc's,etc from supplements you like. And let everyone know that you're just there for AR's. |
| rockondon02-22-07, 02:46 AM | bring props for realism during the battles. Bring a bag of blood and squirt spatters on the figs after really big hits. Have a can of hair spray and a lighter handy for fireballs. Use some kind of foul slime for acid spells. If he casts cone of cold, ask my ex-girlfriend to spread her...er nevermind, bad joke bad joke. If the wizard casts confusion - whip out the latest LGCS (j/k Britt ;) ). Ask the party wizard to cast stinking cloud - you ate mexican food an hour ago and you can't hold it in any longer. |
| RLWilde02-22-07, 10:10 PM | Bring a bag of blood and squirt spatters on the figs after really big hits. Hmm, getting a bag of blood might be difficult, but I could probably manage to get a 30 or 50 cc syringe full from here at work. That should work, right? I would be nice, though, and get blood that's already been through (and passed) infectious disease testing. |
| _metz_02-22-07, 11:32 PM | Insist on sleeping in seperate rooms. Always. Ignore the important plot hooks. Make sure you are the one who holds any game specific item, and give it away/turn it over to a group the party doesn't like as soon as possible. Get the whole party cursed in a recent Perrenland mod... Insist on ships to travel everywhere to annoy any heavy armour users... Play a Rascist Suel/Dwarf/Elf/anything. - Or play a non elf in a Nyrond Meta Forest mod... |
| LGMoses02-23-07, 09:35 PM | refuse to sit down. Always act out all of your character's actions in the most disruptive way possible. roll your dice in the most suspicious way you can think of. Keep the wrong character sheet out on the table so that when you finally get the con organizer to try to look at it he can go, "you're not a barbarian!" to your frilly pants swashbuckler. |
| rockondon02-25-07, 02:21 AM | white out some of your favors and replace them with new ones. The church of Pelor provides unlimited free resurrections. Any access to the Hand of Vecna. Free flaming, shocking, cold upgrades. For helping out the schoolchildren the PC gets a +2 bump on all his stats. Put them all on some core mod that everyone has played. |
| Southernskies02-25-07, 04:36 AM | white out some of your favors and replace them with new ones. Seen that done in RL... by the con-org. Reported it through channels, never heard of any real action being taken. :( |
| LGMoses02-25-07, 09:16 AM | bring a watergun |
| clannagh03-05-07, 08:12 PM | we have deteriorated from "annoy con organisers" to "be annoying at cons" on topic .. boys and girls :) |
| Puggle Halfwine03-05-07, 09:22 PM | 1) Sign up to play modules with characters you don't even have (Barbarian 12 when you have a Cleric 4, for instance). 2) Forget your character sheets (but not ARs) for every game. Steadfastly refuse to remake your characters because "it would be cheating"). Double points if done at a 4-person game. 3) Get about two hours into the game, then exclaim "Oh! I've played this!" and show them your AR. Demand to be slotted into another game. Double points if done at a 4-person game. 4) Sign up to play four different characters in four different games in the same slot. Double points if combined with #1, #2 or any combination thereof. 5) Sign up to slot-zero everything then GM nothing at the con (or even better; sign up to GM everything, then don't show up). ** 6) Drop by random tables when you're not playing, listen for a bit, then loudly announce spoilers. "Oh, this mod? Yeah, I've played it- this is the one where the guy who hired you is really a quasit in disguise! He's hard to kill at the end..." ** As the organizer for a smallish (25-40 people) convention, this occurance is my constant bane. |
| Cynric03-06-07, 04:29 AM | 1) 5) Sign up to slot-zero everything then GM nothing at the con (or even better; sign up to GM everything, then don't show up). ** ** As the organizer for a smallish (25-40 people) convention, this occurance is my constant bane. That just shows that you are relying on the wrong people for slot zero's. Especially when there are other people around who could run a mod, but who were not invited to the slot zero and who are sitting around doing nothing. I regularly play with Puggle and this is quite a true situation. |
| ithardin03-06-07, 01:25 PM | 1. Find out which room the con organizer(s) is/are staying in and put a note on it at 2am which says: "If you have ANY questions, concerns, etc just keep knocking until I wake up...I WANT to talk to you." 2. Keep asking the con organizer(s) where "the swag" is. 3. Put the initials "VIP" on your badge and keep asking the organizers where the "VIP lounge" is. |
| LGMoses03-06-07, 02:22 PM | I plan on going to my first con soon... I hope nobody tries some of these... |
| ithardin03-06-07, 04:44 PM | I'm too afraid of "instant karma" getting me to even consider any of this. We did tease Vernon (Verbobonc Triad) at Winter War in 2006 that we'd put a note on his door at the hotel so everyone would know where the Triad were sleeping :D |
| Gallaway03-06-07, 05:23 PM | my vote so far has to go to the plush miniature suggestion :) |
