...I am curious to know how I can make sure it fits with the existing storyline in other modules.

The module will take place in Zeif and will take the pc's into a merfolk city. Virtually the entire module will take place underwater. I'm connecting the storyline as best I can with some of the characters in ZEF6-01 'Out of Water.'

I intend the city to be led by Shallah's (the one whom was given to the sultan as tribute) father: Sovorn bin Regol, the Mer-Sheik of the Gulf of Ghayar. Shallah's companions, Fahloy and Burlay, and her betrothed whom she left behind (whom I thought I might name Folor) will be there as well.

I'm curious to know if the Triad (or whoever's in charge of these things) have already mapped out or made designs of the merfolk civilization or major cities, and where the Mer-Sheik's city might be located. I'm also curious to know if there are other key figures whom should appear in the module. I want to maintain as much continuity as possible.

Also, any ideas that may be fun to use in an underwater adventure are welcome. I'm also trying to iron out details on what the merfolk city would look like. The concept I have in mind is that, considering the Mer-Sheik has been opening up relations with surface-folk (much to the chagrin of many proud merfolk), he's employed a botanist to grow plants that create air in their underwater city. I'm not sure how to design a city that caters to air-breathing folk as well as allow the merfolk to swim freely within its halls.

thx for any help.

Contact the Zeif Triad privately about this as soon as possible and ask whether they are interested. This forum has one obvious limitation as a locale for discussing adventure ideas; it is hard to do so without creating spoilers for your possible players. It sounds like an intriguing idea; all the best with it.

contact the author of the module you want to base yours on. at least you can get his ok for using some of "his" characters, description etc.

maybe he is willing to share his "sources-collection". when you start looking for "canon" information on something you find out quickly: the sources mentioned are apokryphical, out of print, published long ago, in small editions, in dragon magaszines from the eighties and so on. or maybe the original author is even interested co-writing with you.

thx for the replies guys.
I managed to get a hold of the triad. Unfortunately, they said that they're only taking general submissions for intro modules at this time.
booo :(

but who knows, perhaps they might consider some of my ideas in one of their upcoming modules.

I recommend trying to find an idea for an intro module to submit. First, it gives you an experience dealing with the structures and expectations of LG and your triad without having to worry about multiple APLs. Second, your triad gets some experience with you and knows your ability to work with them and their ideas. Third, it never hurts your writing ability to write more.

Johndubois is absoultely right. One of the things I learned from beginning authors that they ALL underestimate the huge amount of work that is put into a scenario. The fact that you are writing so that others can run the adventure means that you need to add a big amount of exta information, information you would never write down or think about when making adventures for your own home campaigns.

I agree as well and I intend on writing intro modules first. When writing them, I have no doubt that I'll encounter difficulties that I hadn't anticipated.

Next year, they plan on having two underwater adventures. Hopefully by then I'll be more familiar with their expectations and they'll be more familiar with me and perhaps they'll consider me for writing one of them.

In anticipation of writing my first intro mod, I started a topic (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=626797) in order to learn what people like to see in modules that makes them fun.
