| Dempster03-06-07, 09:46 PM | I have been playing a half orc monk in LG for about a year now and have just made 4th level. I am sort of lost as to where to go and what to buy from here on in. Any suggestions for feats, items, prestige classes, etc? |
| bhale18703-06-07, 09:49 PM | A run down of your build and current gear/gp would be helpful |
| ShinAkuma203-06-07, 09:50 PM | I usually like to stay a Monk until 6th, because I like Improved Trip or Disarm. As for PrCs, Tattooed Monk was my choice, and I think it's ok. Since they removed the Chameleon Tattoo, however, I feel the class has lost a lot of power. Still, there are enough choices of abilities that you can turn your Monk into almost any type of character. My other choice would have to be straight Monk. A single-classed Monk gets some really exotic and powerful abilities, and it's worth it to get DR, SR, a Dimension Door SLA, and more craziness. Buy a +4/+6 Belt of Strength ASAP. Monk's Belts are overrated. |
| Dempster03-06-07, 09:53 PM | This might be helpful to answer my question. I already have stunning fist, dodge, weapon focus unarmed strike, and improved grapple. A ring pro +1, a cloak of resistance +1, and the usual alchemical stuff( tanglefoot bags, flasks of acid, etc) and both a cold iron and a silver weapon. |
| Dempster03-06-07, 09:58 PM | I came to the same conclusion about the monks belt. The bonus to attack and damge seemed better to me than just a damage bump, and a +1 ac. Also the STR belt is accessable. |
| Cynric03-06-07, 10:46 PM | A local player has a thirteenth level pure monk that has dodge, mobility, spring attack, elusive target etc. What he does is walk\tumble between two bad guys, designate one of them as his dodge buddy, and then walk away after hitting it. Elusive target then kicks in and one of them hits the other. Personally I think it would get even better with the new spring attack feats from PHB II. |

Any suggestions for feats, items, prestige classes, etc? you can easily qualify for "pious templar", switch to it at any level you like after level 6, level 7 is nice for maximum spell access to pious templar's list, level 9 is nice for avoiding another + zero BAB level or level 10 for first taking the goodies of the 9th level of monk. any deity with quarterstaff or unarmed strike is an option. the only problematic part is that the paladin spells you really want are at level 2 and 3 :(. ciao martin m. edit: uhps, pious templar needs a BAB of 5 so one need to go monk 4, fighter (or any other full BAB class, ranger for TWF) 2 to qualify. |
| ragecage7903-07-07, 02:21 AM | Improved natural attack would be greatly recommended, now that it's open. |
| bhale18703-07-07, 07:46 AM | Improved natural attack would be greatly recommended, now that it's open. Imp Nat Attack is absolutely a must for lvl 6 IMO. Also if you don't regularly adventure with an arcane caster you might consider taking a level of Wizard and buy several Pearls of Power L1 for casting mage armor, shield and Enlarge on yourself. That's +8 AC and 3d6 dmg up to monk 7, then 3d8 to monk 11, and 4d6 at monk 12+ along with +4 size modifer to grappling at a final cost of 1 AB, 1 AC and quivering palm vs a pure monk. |

| Mithrus03-07-07, 11:09 AM | Annam for a diety is an interesting choice. Domains are Creation, Force, Knowlege, Magic, Plant, and Sun. Weapon is Improved Unarmed Strike. Now you got me thinking... Bleh, didn't notice the alignment is neutral...I'd don't play clerics enough, does this mean being LN is ok? |

Zuoken and Zodal are currently the only options for PC's who want unarmed strike gods. |
| Timlagor03-07-07, 12:24 PM | Most people seem to stop Monk at level 12 to avoid the SR which I gather is more of a nuisance than a benefit. (it blocks healing and buffs too) |

Pious Templar is also a decent choice post 12 for a monk. You can pick up mettle as spells are getting *really* nasty (not that they haven't been for many levels already) and you can get melee weapon mastery(bludgeoning) as your 15th level feat because you pick up weapon spec then. |

For some reason I had it in my head that all 3 of those were 1 hour/level, probably because I don't play arcane casters.......Anywho, you're right, obviously you can't waste the rounds on those buffs, they are only effective if you can get them in before combat starts. |
| Mommy was an Orc03-07-07, 05:09 PM | Imp Nat Attack is absolutely a must for lvl 6 IMO. It is an interesting feat, but I don't think it is a 'must' - it basically means a boost in damage of 2.5-3.5 per swing, a little bit more if you get Enlarged. Where as an example, Combat Acrobat from PHBII means you don't fall when Tripped if you make a high, but not impossible balance check. i.e. trying to Trip a giant on the tail end of a flurry is not such a bad idea anymore. Delay Potion, if you have access to cheap potions of Enlarge Person, is very effective. |
| Alpha_Nerd03-08-07, 12:13 PM | If you like stunning fist the feat Ability Focus from the Monster Manual is now open. A really easy way to boost that DC by 2. |
| Dempster03-08-07, 12:17 PM | Where is improved natural attack from? |
| Alpha_Nerd03-08-07, 12:37 PM | Monster Manual |
| Paul H03-11-07, 01:47 PM | Hi Don't suppose your Int is any good? Just thinking of some of the PrC's out there. Enlightened Fist looks OK - gaining Arcane power & D8HP, etc. I was thinking of using one level of Monk with Arcane caster to see if this Prc works. Cheers Paul H |
| Timlagor03-11-07, 05:36 PM | He'a a Half Orc ;) Enlightened Fist works well (missing out on Alter Self is a shame but you can manage). Be sure to take the minimum possible non-casting levels and pick up Arcane Strike ASAP. |
| jstorrie03-11-07, 07:44 PM | Any class with sneak dice works very well after Monk 12, as you have Greater Flurry (and possibly TWF). Nightsong Enforcer or Rogue fit. |
