| Magical_Lin01-08-05, 05:15 AM | Hello all, Does anyone know where (or if) I can find more detailed deity info than that provided in the LG Deities download? My character is a cleric of Celestian, and it would be nice to know something about her god besides the bare stats. Also, is there any information on the church of Celestian? What sort of vestments do they wear, how do they refer to themselves (Sister/Brother? etc.), do they have any holidays, are there any non-obvious taboos, is there a central hierarchy or any hierarchy at all? All that sort of thing. Yes, I am slightly obsessive... |
| Greyson01-08-05, 06:15 PM | There is a lot out there online. But if you want something in print, you have a few good resources. - The 1983 World of Greyhawk boxed set, specifically, the Catalaogue of the Flanaess. - James Ward's 1988 Greyhawk Adventures hard cover. - There is a small bit in the Living Greyhawk Gazateer from 2000. I cannot remember if Celestian is in v.3.0's Deities and Demigods. I loaned mine out and never got it back. But the above are a good start. |
| beyowulf01-08-05, 10:37 PM | Hey, wasn't Celestian one of the deities in the Spelljammer setting? Or am I thinking of someone else? |
| Jesse Heinig01-09-05, 04:27 PM | I do seem to recall Celestian showing up in Spelljammer, because he was the Far Wanderer -- the god of the night sky, travel to distant worlds, astral sailing and similar far-out ventures. In many ways he is the abstract cousin to Fahrlangn; while the latter wanders material roads, the former traveles through distant spheres. | Magical_Lin01-19-05, 03:20 AM | Many thanks for responding, everyone! Sorry I'm so late in replying to y'all; RL has been crazygonuts :P Greyson, any tips as to just where online I should start looking? I tried Googling with several sets of criteria and was quickly bogged down by a tidal wave of useless data. MichaelTLH, I tried your link and it didn't want to work for me :/ Next stop, the RPGA page; I figure I can find a way to your region's page there. Jesse and Beowulf, I actually did find a very informative page about the Spelljammer Celestian in the course of my Googling. Let me know if you want a link :) |

And in very concrete, Greyhawk and D&D Canon ways he's Fharlanghn's Brother :P |

| Magical_Lin01-20-05, 05:42 PM | Ask and ye shall receive! Spelljammer: Celestian (http://spelljammer.org/chars/classes/PriestsOfCelestian.html) If I were in a home campaign, I'd just go ahead and use the info presented here. However, I'm not sure if the Living campaign has its own idea of what Celestian's church is like, which is why I asked :) Plus some (okay, a lot) of what I found there confused me. What on Oerth is a 'sphere'? It seems to refer to spells available to the specialty priest class. Is that an AD&D thing? -M.L. |

In the Spelljammer setting, each setting, like Grey Hawk, was in a particular solar system. That solar system was confined a giant sphere with the stars which you might see in the sky, not being actual stars, but pictures(?) on the inside of the sphere.. Am I making sense? I don't think I described that too well. |
