| visionari901-14-06, 01:50 PM | I am a bit confused about item creation and access. If my 7th level wizard wants to upgrade its cloak of resistance from +1 to +2, do I need an AR with access? I also understand that if a charachter has 2 levels over the item creation level then I do not need access. What is the CL of adding a +1 bonus to a +1 magic item. thanx v |

Prerequisites are all explained in the DMG (with Pearls of Power getting a revision for caster level in the LGCS FAQ), although it's important to know that the listed caster level is also a prerequisite in LG. Access is the other issue. If it's on certain specific charts in the DMG (Wondrous items and maybe a few others) you are considered to have crafting access if you are two levels above the listed caster level of the item. Other items have to be either Core items (like +1 weapons) or items that you have gotten access to in the bottom box on an Adventure Record (favours and such in the top box don't grant crafting access unless they specify it). So, to upgrade a Cloak of Resistance from +1 to +2, you have to have at some point gotten access to a +2 Cloak of Resistance. It can have been Adventure access that has expired, doesn't matter, you just have to have seen it. Or, because it's a Wondrous Item, if you reach 2 levels over the minimum to craft it (6th for a Cloak +2 I think?), you can craft it anyway. Arms and armour, for instance, you never get access for being higher level, you have to actually find them. --Penn, Ket Triad |
