| Mythwin05-03-07, 08:18 PM | Greetings, Name's Peter and i would like to join LG. Unfortunately, i do not seem to find any meta-region corresponding to Spain. Is it me, or there just isn't such region ? Any information would be priceless ! Thank you in advance, Peter aka Mythwin |
| UMiskatonic05-03-07, 10:50 PM | Peter, It's no problem to join, but you are right, Spain doesn't have a region. Luckily, you don't need one. Make a character, and set him in any region you like. You'll just have to go farther for conventions. If you have people in your area who play LG, you can start with cores and adaptables right away. You can also play core mods on-line. France and Italy have the regions of Ekbir and Sea Barons. That's not that far, you could get to thier conventions, I bet. I'm not sure about language issues, you might be at a disadvantage there. There's a pretty good con in Holland, conducted in English I've heard. Its not impossible to get a region (Australia did it, Western Canada too) but you'll need to demonstrate that Spain has a big enough community to make it worthwhile. Good luck. |
| Mythwin05-03-07, 11:11 PM | It's no problem to join Seems that i need a RPGA member number and the only way i know so far for getting one is if i attend a con. I was hoping i could get it in another way, so i can take the Herald DM test and start playing other regional Adventures or just the core adventures, even if it is at double TimeUnit cost. To the point, is there another way to join without assisting to a con first ? Thanks, Mythwin |
| Howie2305-03-07, 11:12 PM | Greetings, Name's Peter and i would like to join LG. Unfortunately, i do not seem to find any meta-region corresponding to Spain. Spain had a region, called Lordship of the Isles. It is currently inactive, from what I understand. You can join the RPGA without having an active region where you live. You can play Core modules in Spain. You might be able to play Splintered Suns meta-regional mods, as this was the metaregion for Lordship of the Isles when it was active. You can also play Core modules on-line. If you travel, you can play regional mods in other parts of Europe. I suggest you contact Sampo, a Triad member for Naerie from Finland. He may have more information about Spain's status. Alternatively, contact Pieter Sleijpen, the Circle representative for Splintered Suns. The Naerie website is: http://www.naerie.net . Pieter's address is in the LGCS and he often posts here as Madfox. This yahoo group sees little traffic: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/lordshipLG/ David |
| Howie2305-03-07, 11:21 PM | To the point, is there another way to join without assisting to a con first ? If you want to join the RPGA, and can't get to a local event to get an RPGA membership application card, send an e-mail to rpgasanctioning@wizards.com, and request a card. In that e-mail, you will need to give them your name and full snail-mail address. They'll then send you the application form (via snail-mail), which includes your new number. When you get the form, fill it out, detach the part of the card that is now your membership card, and mail the rest of the card back to the RPGA. I don't know how quick this is. Note, snail mail = physical postal address. David |
| bitznarf05-04-07, 12:28 AM | I don't know how quick this is. Note, snail mail = physical postal address. David I know of one person who have requested cards on multiple occasions and never received any. His girlfriend however has received several packages. So I recommend getting a ETA on your card, and then following up if you don't get it. |
| Madfox1105-04-07, 04:33 AM | Spain belongs to the Splintered Suns meta-region. If you can get an active gaming community going, I will see what I can do about the Lordship of the Isle and the fact that it apparently has been removed from the database. Just remember that you have to be active for some time before we do so though ;) All too often I get enthausiastic reactions from people in Spain and Italy, who than never ever reply anymore to my mails with requests for more information. It takes a lot of time and energy to get a gaming community going, and even more so when living in a region where they do not speak English. It took me over 2 years of dedicated work with help from a couple of others to get it going in the Netherlands and even now it still doesn't have the momentum to keep going on itself. If two or three people in addition to me would dissapear it would come crushing down again. Pieter Sleijpen RPGA Living Greyhawk Circle Member The Splintered Suns |
| Rerednaw05-04-07, 09:48 AM | Hmmm and I was thinking about retiring in Europe...have to be careful which country then. :) To the OP. Good luck. I e-mailed custserv for cards twice and got them both times. The only downside was it did take about 6 weeks each time and I live in the states so no idea how long it would take to get to Spain. |

Previous Triad never did anything about it after I sent it in. I also think Ken Jenks who frequents these boards did an intro for them. That was never edited by Triad either.... Interesting situation. A region with two completed modules but no Triad or players :D Sampo Haarlaa Naerie Triad |

| Mythwin05-04-07, 09:05 PM | Thank you everyone ! I would like to say that i already sent my data after i read your posts and i will be waiting for a membership now. Yet i will have to disappoint you since i doubt i will be active enough to get many people moving. Truth is, when i arrived in Spain, i got to Madrid first and me and some friends actually made an association, one for Role Playing so we could get a place to play at and get funding to organize events. It actually went quite good until most of our members became more interested in LARPs and that is how we more or less fell apart. Well, they are pretty serious about the LARPs so i guess it is OK. I myself made an approach towards the Spanish Triad a few years back, i believe they were just starting to get organised. Mailed a few of them, i believe they were in Alicante and i myself was about 50 kms away. I did have a herald DM membership card, but the test was free then and that is how i had the number first place. Thing is, i had to move recently after that and i messed it up, having lost my membership card. Now after a few years i am able to dedicate a bit of time and effort to my hobby, but alas, no Triad in Spain. But point was totally another, i am sorry. Just did not want any of you to put too much hopes in me. I believe i would only be able to organize a smallish 5 to 10 people with whom to play some Living Greyhawk adventures. Maybe in the future ,) Thanks again for the helpful information and advice. I will be sticking around here after i get the RPGA membership i guess. Like DnD too much to let it go, so after i become a member i am determined to play one way or another. ,) Cheers, Peter P.S: By the way, did you know that in Spain a big part of the people compare Role Players with Psychos, Serial Killers etc., Due to some incidents in the past ? ;) |
| kenobi6505-05-07, 01:37 AM | P.S: By the way, did you know that in Spain a big part of the people compare Role Players with Psychos, Serial Killers etc., Due to some incidents in the past ? ;) Yeah, well, we sometimes have that problem here in the States, too. There were a few incidents, mostly in the late 1970s / early 1980s, that convinced some people that D&D taught you how to cast evil spells, and sent you off on killing sprees. That's mostly died out now (though there are still some misguided folks who believe it and keep the rumors going), but, mostly, now, D&D is more seen as the hobby of nerds. :) |

Maybe in the future ,) Well, if you can keep the group of 5 - 10 people going for 6 months or so, you might be able to apply for a region. That's how we started off in Bangkok, Thailand and now we're a part of Perrenland and continually introducing new players to LG. ;) Although I'm secretly hoping that we get our own region someday :D Too bad I'm in Shanghai now, though... Got to find myself a temporary group here. |
| Mythwin05-07-07, 03:51 AM | The problem here is not actually so much the lack of people. It is the language and the information available. Few of the Spanish role players knows there is an official living campaign and even if they knew, most Spanish people's English is not very good, not to say bad. So to get a group started someone has to have a decent English to come online ask here and there, try to get a region and adventures. Once he gets the adventures, for example if i do get some core adventures, they need to get translated in Spanish, which is just too much time and effort to handle. Another option as i see it now is to actually get material from South American communities. That might actually get a good gaming community going in Spain. Say if instead of putting Spain with France and Italy, which are near, put it with historically it's own - The ex-Spanish Colonies. I will see which one i will press for once i get my RPGA number ,) Laters, Me |
| Madfox1105-07-07, 07:46 AM | Regional adventures can and are written in the language of that region. The French and German regionals for example are written respectively in French and German. The Benelux, Scandinavians and Swiss stick to English, simply because if they would write in one of the local languages they would need to do so for *all* the languages spoken in the area (French, Dutch and German in the Benelux, French, German and Italian in Switzerland, Dannish, Norish, Swedish and Finnish in Scandinavia) and that would be really hard. Although if people really wanted to translate the adventures the Circle would have no objections. |
| Mythwin05-09-07, 08:58 PM | Thank you everyone ! You were great, unbelievably helpful ! Thank you ! I have a membership number now, after following your advice. I am on my way to take the Herald test now and later hopefully me and my friends will be a little happier ,) Thanks, Peter |
