Hey, all. I am glad to see the LG Boards back up. BTW, this thread is kind of mirrored HERE (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=179575) at the Traditional Greyhawk Board.

I refereed COR3-16 Lerara by Ron Lundeen twice, three weeks ago. Regrettably, the PCs cannot explore or engage the most exciting part of the adventure - The Mother that resides in the pit below Meklot's sacrificial room.

Of course, the after-adventure banter occured and we wondered what The Mother is and where she/it is from. One of the players posited that she is an Alien come to Oerth to establish her dominion. She is starting with the Lerara, of course, in Slerotin's Tunnel. It even appeared that she resides under the Hellfurnace Mountains because of the warmth.

Anyway, do you thihnk we will see the premise of The Mother developed in LG? What are youur thoughts on her?

I remember reading somewhere that the Mother was an avatar of Wee Jas that had been corrupted during a battle with an evil god (possibly the Elder Elemental god) long before the fall of the Suloise Empire but that wasn't canon.

My understanding is that she is a large slime/ooze type creature that is highly intelligent and has been worshipped as a god by the Lerare for thousands of years. Beyond that I don't think that there is any info on 'her' at all.

As for being the most exciting part of Lerara, maybe for about 6 seconds when the party all die at which point I guess it becomes less fun (ps any UK players fancy this option, I'll DM it) :D

Yea, I subscribe to the Large, Slimey, Ooze idea myself - just because "disgusting squelching noises" seems to point that way. But, couldn't the Lerara find a more awe-inspiring deity besides a menacing gelatinous cube?

I guess I must remember, the Lerara have only been in there for just over one-thousand years, give or take a decade. In that space of time you probably get pretty freaky in thehead. :mymy:

Thanks for the input, guys.

They've been there for 935 years.
And they "found" the Mother within the first generation or so of being down there.

We might also surmise that she's not able to be dealt with easily at all.

Presumably Theodain Eriason (now of the Circle of Eight!) encountered her in 576 when he first explored the tunnel (with whom?) but she was still around in 593.

Maybe he was only low level back then (probably not).

I was somewhat disappointed we didn't get to meet Theodain when Sea of Dust was run. I'd have thought he'd take an interest.

I'd rather stick with the shadowy version of the circle not ones that pop along to the Black Dragon inn and round up some sell swords for an adventure romp.

Maybe they are involved but from waaay in the background, kind of like a certain core set in the pale.

Remember the 'Darkness Given Hunger' in Book of Vile Dorkness?

Perhaps mother is same kind of creature....

Maybe she is something to do with Zuggtomoy of Temple of elemental evil fame? IIRC lady Z is the demon who patronises fungi, slimes, oozes and all that icky stuff.

But AFAIK 'mother' has never been detailed as more than a few lines here or there so there are no hard details ..... yet. :smirk:

Most of the information that is known regarding the Lerara is due to Elayne Mystica, a Lerara expatriot that left the tunnel in 349 C.Y. and who lived in Irongate as recently as 585 C.Y. when she sent a letter to Mordenkainen detailing her knowledge of her people up to the time of her departure. (Dragon Magazine #241 and #139). I don't know of her current status, however, in addition to being a high level wizard, she was psionically gifted, has her own pocket dimension (where time runs slowly enough to allow for her extreme age), and is known to "hang around" with Tsoloandril, the hero god of wave motions.
