Is there any clarification on lethal damage yet?

The current issue at hand is if a party contains one or more archers, can they choose to do non lethal damage with their shots?

If not, doesn't that cripple gameplay for any character classes that are archery based?

I would like to see some clarification on the matter if anyone of any importance would like to post something concerning this I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Well correct me if I am wrong but I seem to remember reading that only melee weapons that are meant to deal lethal damage could be made to deal nonlethal by taking a -4 penalty.

Have you looked into the merciful enchantment? I've seen at least one archer with it.

Arrows hit their target with the pointy end. :) Unlike a sword, there is no 'flat side' of the blade to pummel an opponnent with an arrow, and there is no real way to hit a target in a 'glancing blow' or the like with an arrow, either. However, there are specialized arrows out there designed to do bludgeoning damage that could probably be used to create subdual damage (and some designed explicitly for subdual damage).

Mind you, these 'non-magic' arrows, like most non-magical 'odd' stuff in the LG campaign, is often more difficult to find than the magical stuff (since there are that much fewer people that would be interested in it), so good luck in finding a source.

Otherwise, as mentioned, the merciful enchantment is a good one if you can find it.
