Can I have a .doc version of the LG Deities Document 2.0 so I can start updating it to the current rules set? It's sorely in need of updating and I'm quite happy to dedicate an afternoon to getting it done.

Could you mention that fact that there are no CG deities with the "Glory" domain?

You'd think that the heroic "man with no name" would believe in earning a little glory.

Also, on p.4, under the Stormlord entry, the text states that characters worshipping Tezcatlipoca qualify but only if they worship him as Apocatequil.. which is all fine and good, except:
a) there is no Apocatequil entry in the deities section (since they make a point of drawing attention to the difference, I'm supposing it's not the same entry as Tezcatlipoca)
b) Apocatequil isn't listed among valid choices in the corresponding table (p.199-204)

Or does characters mean only NPC in this case?

Favoured weapons could be updated to take into account the newly-opened splatbook weapons. I don't see any deity favouring, say, the lajatang or anything, but things like falchion-great falchion equivalency could be considered.

Also, it needs more favored weapon: Glaive deities. I keep trying to not make spiked chain users but weapon focus: deity's favored weapon is required for pious templar :(

I understand the thought, but, from an IC perspective, doesn't it seem kind of backwards to be picking a deity based on the favored weapon?

"Yes, Father, I like what you're saying about the faith's tenets, and they're definitely in line with my beliefs...but, I'm afraid that longsword just isn't an optimal weapon choice..."

Can you imagine a worse application for god-hood? 'Let's see, super-ever-present-oneness? Check. Galactic super powers? Ah, he's close enough. Appropriate follower base... hey guys, I don't think we want to let this one in, I think all our temple guardians would see 6.3% less recruitment compared to the average worshiper decline prediced of 1.7%. Hi

What about Kelanen? Travel & War Domains - you'd probably auto qualify at 7th Lvl. Favoured wpn any sword. War Domain grants the Wpn Focus.

EG:

Dwarf Cleric Kelanen

Stats as reqd, but min 13 Str for Pwr Attack

1) Pwr Attack, Wpn Prof/Focus Gt Sword (Domain Pwr)
3) Cleave
6) Gt Cleave
8) Become Pious Templar
9) whatever Feat. Divine Pwr? for extra HP/10' move.
10) Wpn Spec. (Gt Sword)
11) Bonus Ftr Feat. Improved Crit?

Looks like a good build. As long as people realise you're NOT the party cleric, just a character with cleric levels to boost combat. Lower level probs with poor BAB/Hit Dice made up for by good BAB/HP from Pious Templar. Being Dwarf also helps with that Full Plate you're going to wear, plus bonus to saves. You've got good Fort/Will saves, plus the Freedom of Movement bonus as a domain power.

If it wasn't (yet) another cleric I'd try it myself. (Already got 2 clerics)

There is a difference between character choice and player choice.

The former should really be consistent and logical based on the character's history and background.

The other is whatever makes the player happy.

Most player choices can be explained in-character with a bit of creative thinking, anyhow. For example, perhaps YOU might have picked that deity because he offers the longsword as a favored weapon, but as far as your CHARACTER is concerned it was the other way around.

I would like it if the document updated the elven deities to reference their racial weapons from Races of the Wild in their descriptions. Its pretty easy to see where thinblade, lightblades, elvencraft bows and even sword bows fit. The favored weapons don't really need to change.

I'm not as familiar with the other racial pantheons, but you probably could do the same thing.

I would like to see more other flvour weapons, too many gods use the quarterstaff, mace, etc.I remember asking Sean Reynolds about why he chose such boring weapons when he wrote up the Deities portion of the LGG. I remember him saying that basically the authors of the LGG weren't privy to any sort of final draft of the Core rules. They had no clue about Prestige classes, for instance, and thus no NPCs in the LGG have levels in PrCs.

This played a partial role in uninspired choices for favored weapons.

However, asked about one in particular. Joramy. Godess of Fire, Volcanoes, Wrath, Anger, and Quarrels. She gets quarterstaff. Friggin' quarterstaff! This seemed such total B. and in B., S. as in S. that I asked Sean about it. He told me his thinking was what better for Joramy for her faithful to walk around with big sticks to beat people with. Okay, I buy that... but quarterstaff! :headexplo If you want a big stick to beat people with, how about greatclub! Serious, apparently greatclub hadn't made it into a 3e final rules draft for Sean so he went with what big stick he knew for certain would be there... quarterstaff. I'm not kidding either, Sean didn't know if trident would make it in so for deities who use tridents in old AD&D write-ups, Sean wrote "trident (treat as longspear)".

Failures of communication during the initial authoring of the LGG have been tainting the LG Deities ever since. We have been cursed with uninspiring weapons because WotC R&D didn't tell the LGG authors what weapons there would be for certain in the Core rules. LG adminitrators ever since have left this unchanged because... I dunno. They must like it the way it is or they have thought it is too much of a bother to give more interesting weapons out to deities who were originally given poor favored weapons.

I dont know that many Fighters with chain, in fact in my 4 years of LG i have only met 4 PCs who use it. It really is not that common a choice.

My Pcs,
one uses short swords, (2WFER)
one uses large Flail (my BDF power Attacking etc),
one uses a whip and Long Spear - never had to hit anyone in anger yet (6th level)
One uses a guisarme (Tripper and stuff)
and another does not own a weapon, he keeps thinking about buying one but forgets....(Arcane Trickster)

So do all the Fighters in your area have chains? or do you just have a pet peeve?

My dwarf cleric has converted from a deity with boring old dwarven waraxe war domain to one that has quarterstaff war domain. Go the quarterstaff. The atonement will cost him a fair chunk of time units and gold but its worth it.

Getting back on topic ... It would be good if the deities document reiterated the fact that atonement for willing acts have a XP cost and hence are not available without triad permission. There is often confusion about this.

Is this, by any chance, a Perrenland character? War domain... quarterstaff... it's Joramy, right? Welcome! :)

And don't underestimate the quarterstaff. It's a double weapon that can be used as such without exotic weapon proficiency and it's a valid target for brambles / spikes. It's funny to watch a cleric wielding a brambled staff with Zealot Pact active ;) (And it would've been even cooler if the monsters in question hadn't been immune to the Fires of Purity damage...)

Well picked, yes Joramy indeed .. though its a Bright Sands character who eventually if the Ratik/Perrenland switch goes ahead may move to Perrenland if the right role play reason arises. He will be able to move regions and still keep the same regional deity :)

One of my other characters uses quarterstaff a lot .. with a potion of shillelagh they can be seriously effective especially against DR x/Bludgeonng or magic and nasty swarmy things.

There aren't many staff-specific ones, as far as I know - Quick Staff from CW is okay if you're using combat expertise a lot. The advantage of the exotic double weapons is that you can pick up exotic weapon master and flurry with them :) Of course, a staff can be used in a monk flurry, if you have monk levels.

My cleric mostly used her staff as something to put spells on - oil of shillelagh at low levels, Spikes when it lasted hours / level, Quickened Brambles when Spikes got nerfed. But she was a cleric, with very few feats to spare and a lot of spellpower to play with: there are probably some feats out there that I don't know about.

While we are on these topic does anyone know of any updates to MM-I that show new preferred classes for the sub-races. Come on Deep Halflings are tough cookies.

Maybe give us a Deep Halfling God for our ongoing war against Kobolds and Goblins. He could be mounted on a Celestial Boar or something. His quote could be "Drive them to the very cliffs of Hell, and then Charge them in!" now that would be a God my Halfling PC would be proud to follow.

All of rules and specifics of the deities in the LGDD are based off whatever details of the deities are available in that pre-3rd ed. material. While a LGDD with descriptive text for each deity would be great, I wouldn't expect to see any new deities, or any changes to existing deities, unless you can find published cannon backing up your proposed changes.

Unless I am missing something, neither the size nor ease of use of your weapon change, just the base damage dice.

From the SRD:
Your own nonmagical club or quarterstaff becomes a weapon with a +1 enhancement bonus on attack and damage rolls. (A quarterstaff gains this enhancement for both ends of the weapon.) It deals damage as if it were two size categories larger. These effects only occur when the weapon is wielded by you. If you do not wield it, the weapon behaves as if unaffected by this spell.

LOL

My Halfling is so digusted with Halfling Gods, he has decided to follow a Dwarven God instead..

(Gwumph is a follower of the Dwarven God Muamman Duathal, the God of Expatriates, Exiles and Travellers. Gwumph is a Halfling that refuses to accept he is a Halfling. Gwumph has rejected the ways of his people, calling Halflings frivolous, soft and weak. Gwumph went in search of something that connected with his soul and he found it in the Dwarven people. Dwarves are everything Gwumph aspires to be and he has adopted the Dwarven name Gwumph (he answers to no other). Gwumph is fluent in Dwarven, very knowledgeable in Dwarven culture and is a professional blacksmith. He only drinks Dwarven ale, and hasn’t cut his hair in years in hopes of growing a beard (he has tried various fake beards from time to time, but they never seem to last). As a Paladin Gwumph has devoted himself to care and defence of the Dwarven people. In his mind nothing comes before a Dwarf. Knowing that the only way to be truly accepted by Dwarves is to do a great deed or service for the people, Gwumph is travelling around looking for that one opportunity to prove himself and be accepted by his adopted people.
Gwumph has renounced his Halfling heritage and has embarked on a journey of self-fullfillment to become a Dwarf. )

Arvoreen is namby bamby simply for being a Halfling God!!:duel:

Um... How can your halfling be a paladin of a dwarven god, or at least, specifically of Muamman Duathal? That deity's Origin of Worship is "Dwarf" and Core Worshippers are "Dwarves", with no other races listed. Meaning Muamman won't grant divine abilities to anyone not a dwarf, no matter how much they think they are, or how much that person empathizes with the dwarven races.

Edit:Plus, Muamman's domains (City, Community, Good, Protection, Travel) don't exactly scream "warrior" -- he looks pretty namby pamby to me...

LOL good call Arvagor!!

For some reason I thought Muamman had "others" listed for uncommon followers.

Oh well.

Wells there's ways around it.

1. not 100% sure, but I believe Paladins don't have to worhsip a specific diety. If this is true then i like the God, but don't my powers from him.

2. A more likely explantion would be that my PC gave up free luxury upkeep for life and in return was made a Noble and a Knight of the Dwarven Nation in Perrenland (a newly formed nation made up of exiles and expatriates) I think Muamman would look kindly on any PC to the defense of this new Dwarven Nation. (but will contact my Triad about it)

As for why choosing him? He seemed like the only Dwarven God that would take pity on my PC (considering he is in exile from his race, has the soul of a dwarf, but cursed with the body of a Halfling, and has sworn to defend a dwarven community etc etc etc)

Yes there are other more War-mongering Dwarven Gods, but Gwumph went for what he thought was attainable.

Any chance he'll make it into the LGDD? I have a PC who's been carrying around a book about him since year one.

I hope it does. Until then, here's a cert you can use to make a worshiper of him.

Description: Few written works exist about Molaho Khem. The most popular work, passed from adventurer to adventurer, with an original copy in the Great Library of Greyhawk, is the Death Saga of Molaho Khem. The tome is only seven inches wide and six inches tall. It contains five printed woodcuts, each signed with the monogram "E.M." The illustrations depict Khem overcoming various challenges and finally being laid to rest. The text is written in the Common tongue. The Death Saga reveals the final days of the great hero of legend, when he returned to Dar’Kesh Anam, the city of his birth, to combat an alien menace. Recently it was discovered that Dar’kesh Anam and Nerull’s Bane, located in the Fellreev Forest, were one and the same. The book's conclusion suggests that Khem defeated a group known as the Hivecouncil, but was poisoned by their ebbing lifeblood. His body was magically preserved at the moment before death in the Kushkava, the city's highest tower.
Tales of Molaho Khem are common in the Flanaess and seem to pre−date the Migrations. Every human culture stakes a claim on him, and many explorers sought out the fabled city of Dar’Kesh Anam, seeking to draw truth (and perhaps a bit of fortune) from the ancient tales. Late in 595 CY, the lich Dahlvier, himself a survivor of Khem’s ancient people and a former friend of the sleeping hero, led adventurers to Dar’Kesh Anam to protect it from the competing interests of the Horned Society and Iuz. There, adventurers made their way through the fabled Kushkava and located a magically preserved, sleeping humanoid who was nearly 9 feet tall and adorned in vibrant purple mithral armor and shield, with a vibrant purple mithral longsword resting on his chest. Somehow, the adventurers were able to awaken Molaho Khem from a slumber that had lasted thousands of years. The Risen Hero soon began exploring the Combination of Free Lords, eager to fight evil once again. It is reported that some sort of dog−like creature serves as his advisor and translator and that the pair have since slain the hill giant sheriff of Rookroost, driven the orcs out of Kinemeet, and pounded on the gates of Riftcrag, slaying dozens of Boneheart Cranzer’s soldiers before leaving the area unharmed. Many other heroes seem to be flocking to Khem, including: a bleached, white half−orc riding what appears to be a pegasus and wearing a black crown, and a powerful male human former cleric of Boccob. Khem now lives in the deserted Castle Dahlvier in Dahlvier’s County, just west of the Fellreev Forest. Many note that the Risen Hero lives very close to the dreaded home of the Lord of Pain, Dorakaa, and speculate on what Ol’ Wicked thinks of his new neighbor.
Since the awakening, evoking the name of the Risen Hero grants power, and the Risen Hero is now a god amongst mortals. Khem’s society was devoted to the worship of Boccob, and the Risen Hero, himself, pays homage to the Uncaring One. As for worshipers, much of the Risen Hero’s burgeoning faith has yet to be revealed, but a shrine already exists on the second floor of the Half Pint Pub in the city of Dyvers.

There is one new hero deity, Molaho Khem.I'd like to suggest a second new deity for the next deities document: Tarsellis Meunniduin.

He appears on page 29 of Dragon #155. He's the patron deity of snow elves, and the article in which he appears is rather Greyhawk-centric.

With the upcoming RPGA reward card that will allow LG players to start a snow elf PC, adding Tarsellis Meunniduin seems to me to be a good move.

Huh. So he's hanging around on Oerth killing monsters? Cool. I don't know how this hasn't made the news in the other metaregions. If I had a chance of meeting him, I might actually worship him. Or perhaps for the high level rebuild ...

I know Dyvers and BK have both had a couple of adventures relating to him and given out atonements to MK.

Before she decides to worship him, my bard Clover (who recently moved to Dyvers) needs to know how hunky he is, how fashionable, and how date-able.

Well, he's a giant in purple armor, so I assume he's "hunky" but I'm not sure how "fashionable" you would consider him. No gods are "date-able" as I'm assuming your bard is very high maintenence and he's too busy slaying abberations and providing spells to clerics to spend too much time with you.

It just gets a littel silly when all the Orc fighters you meet have spiked chains and the guys on a boat pull out spiked chains, etc.

I mean Orcs and pirates using spiked chains.

HAVE THEY NO CONCEPT OF TRADITIONAL FANTASY VALUES???

To get back off topic the only time I've seen anyone using a spiked chain was a pirate move. Cutthroat Island. One of the thugs attacking our heroine in one of the many bar fight scenes. So neh.

Though I do think its funny to read Gnarl Glittergold's description and then realize that he dosn't have the Gnome domain.

I'm kinda hoping for a few PC worshipable gods with both the SKY and TRAVEL domains...want a cleric with fly and aerial alacrity...hopefully a halfling...and get reduced...be a humming bird...

...and Moon too. Moon would be a good addition due to the fact there are a couple of spells exclusive to that domain. It would make for a fairly original character.

After looking through the current deitied document, it seems there is at least one deity that should have both sky and travel. Velnius. His portfolio? SKY and weather. He's got the air, TRAVEL, water, and weather domains, but no sky...
