Kobolds are popular as canonfodder at 1st level from what I've seen. What I now propose is a race. I'm starting 2 lists. on one list how many kobolds you've killed, on another how many PC's you've seen get killed BY kobolds. Whoever gets the most wins!

Killed 20ish kobolds.
Seen 2pc's die to kobolds...stupid inclosed underground combats.(It's funny to see pc's getting killed by kobolds)

No spoiler but I've seen a recent mod where you *can* fight 38 kobolds in one encounter.

ive seen a mod that has so many kobolds in it, that if you choose to attack them, the mod basically says: if the pcs try to fight the kobolds, they all get beaten to death.

cool huh?

Hi

Can only remember one mod with Kobolds - and that had an entire tribe of them!

Of course - having played Saarbreenar, have played a mod with 3 Kobold PC's!
(Kept on asking for roast Paladin on the menu at inns).:D

Let's see... I think about 20 dead kobolds (somewhere between 5 and 10 of those single-handedly chopped to bits by my level 2 half-orc). No PCs dying to kobolds though.

I have seen dozens of kobolds, though only rarely have I fought them myself. One time it did happen I killed about 10 I think.

I have seen two character deaths due to kobolds (one due to death attack from kobold assassin) and seperate groups, consisting a total of 16-20 PCs retreating in humiliation after hard fight when kobolds eventually wore them down to a point they could no longer go on.

In general, I think facing kobolds is one of the most dangerous affair possible in LG (encounters seem to have been designed that way). Lest not forget that Kobold War4 is only CR1 creature. One with masterwork greatsword and power attack could come and attack for +3 to hit (+4 BAB, +1 focus, +1 masterwork, +1 size, -4 power attack) and do 1d10+8 damage. Clearly nothing to take lightly :D

Add in the fact that all of its buddies could aid it for more AC or hit bonuses...

Oh yeah, I remember how a local player formed a mighty "Kobold Alliance" in Crystal Cavern of th Cairn Hills and proceeded to kill all the gnomes in it, because to local players it was clear that gnomes where the bad guys there...

That's just wrong on so many levels.

man, i remember that kobold leader from the first Bright Sands mod. Man, he was tough!. I remember critting on him for damage somewhere in double digits and when he didn't die I liked to freak out.

Yeah. Remember, this is the man responsible for most of our regional modules. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Checking my frag lists... There are some 12 killed kobolds between my 9th-level wizard, 4th-level scout and 4th-level asherati bard.

I've seen one guy die to kobolds, the same kobold assassin event that Simpi mentioned.

He actually misremembers the "Crystal Caverns of the Cairn Hills" event. It was obvious to us that neither side was right or wrong, but we figured that if we let the kobolds kill the gnomes, we'll get more loot, and are less likely to die messily.

Oh right, he wanted to do it but botched his diplomacy check and later you just waited for kobolds to do their thing and looted.

One other group did not like the gnomes too much either (this was in Onnwal)so when the main raiding party came, some of the party members actually used Bluff checks to convince good aligned party member that they were fighting against kobolds for real (and conviniently blocked his way) while waiting for kobolds to kill all gnomes so they could kill all the kobolds afterwards and loot the place.

One rogue actually called dibs on temple of Garl Glittergold. What else I was supposed to do than award them full gold & exp :D

Evil act, well not really. Even to me the gnomes were the evil side. After all, they "attacked" the kobolds first. Besides, I hated the modules underlying message..

Were we the only ones who brokered peace?.. :P

Oh well. My char generally gives kobolds the benefit of the doubt since they are dragonkin like her.

"Hello, mister evil uber kobold, you want this big blue artifact stone thingy? Shall I place it somewhere convenient for you? Here you go..."

She was rather dissapointed with the kobolds in the Dust series... She kept asking them to please stop fighting and be nice...

No, my sorcerer reacts in exactly the same way :) She made peace between the kobolds and gnomes in the Cairn Hills (as a L2 human who spoke fluent Gnome and Draconic, and had no diplomatic training, but was very pretty and persuasive), she got along very well with the kobolds in Shedding Scales (at least, after she persuaded them to release their slaves), then in one of the Bright Sands modules she managed to get herself adopted as the shaman and sworn protector of a kobold tribe :D

I could be wrong, but off-hand I don't think she's actually killed any kobolds, she's always managed to turn those encounters non-violent. She doesn't like hurting other dragonkin, especially small and weak ones who need her protection. She's never seen a PC killed by kobolds either, although our druid's horse got chomped by a fiendish ankheg in Crystal Caverns, at the instigation of kobolds.

Seen a kobold paladin that was killed by a player in the region (in his sleep none the less) and several in a Core special (it was great, my gnome was the only party member not handicapped by the small-size tunnels).

Bastard kobolds. I was at Pandemonium Mayhem of 2006, I think it was up in Michigan. We're playing an APL 4 table with a Fighter 2, Monk 2, Centaur something, Rogue/Ranger mix, and a pure Ranger. No cleric- so you know something bad is going to happen.

Not only did the Kobold use swarm, and shoot-scatter-and-swarm tactics- the events transpired as such. As everyone was fighting the kobolds down a lone stretch of caverns, half of the party dies. The Monk? Wandering far away. I'm left to drag the bodies out myself. Needless to say, we barely got any XP from that module. =( Lost the cool things to boot. Darn.

Kobolds are vile creatures- but the preferred "slaymate" is Ghouls. Ever since he was surrounded by four Ghouls at once and gained a nasty scar because of it- he has sworn to slay every Ghoul he sees on land or sea. And yes, he wears Full-Plate. He's that mad at them.

My favorite kobold story involved something like this

NPC#1 gets kidnapped by kobolds.

NPC#2 wants to rescue him but he's a real urban type and his idea of preparing for the wilderness is bringing a mule and wagon full of stuff.

We fight some kobolds outside and interrogate the survivors. We discover NPC#1 is in the warrens, and the tribe still has something like 15 kobold combatants left including leader types.

Our party is in an intro mod, and there are 4 of us (or maybe 5 but one wasn't really contributing). All of us had brand new characters so we didn't even have any scroll cheese or the one guy with an armored wardog or equivalent to fall back on.

Our solution? We go into the warren, and we then grab NPC#2 so he can't talk and queer the deal and negotiate with the kobolds to trade NPC#1 for NPC#2's wagon full of "trade goods".

Both NPC's freed, we get full xp but fall rather short on the gold side of the equation :) But we also avoided the sure TPK. (we looked at the map afterwards. Even if all they had was warriors, they would have totally owned us)

Crystal Caverns, we negotiated with the critters and made peace after killing all the ones that attacked us first. I think I got to fight some in Nyrond with my barb/druid but they're kinda hard to tell from all the goblins we fought. I think it was mostly goblins. My bright sands chars slaughtered any kobolds they found, but we fought the other encounter in the intro and missed fighting Big Blue. The Pale doesn't really have any Kobolds, so most of my chars missed out on them.

Way back in 2003 or 2004 there was a battle interactive in Florida that had a kobold sorceror after the third 8d6 fireball the paladin charging him and an animal companion of the druid at the table didn't make it. Once the players got to him, he didn't last long, but the damage had already been done.

OMG all these people killed the Gnomes!?

Maybe it was the DM, but after fighting the kobolds that ambushed it we were absolutely CLUELESS as what to do next. We tried lots of things. So eventually we just started killing and slaughtering innocent kobolds to see if thats what were supposed to do.

So my char has killed 200+ kobolds.

is it true if u do something awesome they put ur character in LG as an NPC? I believe I remember reading about a famous denizen of the Yeomanry who defended a town from a huge onslaught of..... I can't remember what, but he did it by setting scores of traps. That reminded me of hearing that. That'd be awesome, to have a character adopted into the game. What an honor.

iirc, you can give your pc to mod writers after you retire it, instead of holding it for high level gaming.

My gray-elf PC got 'marked' into a Kobold. for a MT, it's a good thing ... and it helps me to learn role-playing.

Besides, it was meant to be. He's even got access to a Kobold Paladin/Cleric of Heironeous as a cohort!

Kobold POWER! :D
