| sheibeck09-07-04, 02:10 PM | I have a question about paying lifestyle cost for your very first adventure with a character. The character is level one and has no pre-existing conditions (i.e. no temporary ability drain, no diseaeses, etc.) Since you are newly created then you likely already bought 20 arrows and have a full healing kit. Is their any reason to pay any lifestyle cost for your very first adventure then? The way the LCGS reads it appears that paying the lifestyle cost accounts for the time between the previous adventure and the end of the current adventure. Since there was no previous adventure then it stands to reason that for your very first adventure with a character you need not pay the lifestyle cost and you suffer no consequences for doing so. My second question is...say that you have the newly created character and you do not buy any rations, arrows/bolts, or a healing kit. Does paying the lifestyle cost give you rations, arrows/bolts (numbering 20), and a full healing kit? The healing kit, specifically, costs 50gp. So, if you don't own one, you can't really refill it. I'm assuming you have to own one in order to take adventage of refilling it when you pay your lifestyle cost. I'm DMing my first LG game next month, so I'm trying to get clear on some of the more vague rules in the LGCS. Thanks in advance. |

If you don't pay for lifestyle, even if it is your very first module, you suffer all the penalties (which can impact the next module you play). 2. Lifestyle pays for refilling such items, but you must purchase it initially. Ed |

First off, in the "Adventure Record #" Box, it has pre-printed "1", which means it's clearly meant to be a character's first adventure. Then, in the Starting TU box it has pre-printed "52", also indicating it's supposed to be the first adventure. In TU Cost, it has pre-printed "2", and in TU Remaining, it has pre-printed "50". Now, the interesting thing for this discussion, is that it has NO "Lifestyle" box. Under the gold section it has ONLY Items Sold and Items Bought boxes. That tells me you aren't supposed pay lifestyle upkeep for your first adventure. |

Many of these 'introductory' adventures are introductory precisely because you don't start off with normal equipment, are imprisoned, or in a special situation. As such, you _can't_ pay upkeep, because you don't have any money, and upkeep is paid before gold is awarded. I think this is a special situation though, rather than a general rule. |
| JosephKell09-17-04, 08:50 PM | or you are in a metaorganization that pays for you (like the Prelatal Army) |
| Cardinal Teplin09-18-04, 06:57 AM | Your region may differ, but we can't join any metaorgs before our first adventure... |
